The news of the passing of General Vishwanath Sharma, former Chief of the Army Staff of the Indian Army, is deeply saddening. And yet he lived a full life. He was my father's senior, in the Armoured Corps and I had the privilege of spending considerable time in his company during my youth. His discipline, simplicity, unwavering dedication to the nation, and leadership will always remain a source of inspiration. His passing today in New Delhi at the age of 96 is an irreparable loss to the nation. His exceptional service to the Indian Army and the country will always be remembered with gratitude and respect.
