Made using Amazon Nova Canvas. Prompt: "Soundwaves with stylistic glows and gradients"

April 2025

Our newsletter features the latest developments on Amazon Nova foundation models, along with advancements in AI-powered ML tools and LLM training and evaluation, plus the Amazon Research Awards spring 2025 call for proposals.

AI announcements

We introduced several updates to the Amazon Nova family of foundation models, available to explore on nova.amazon.com:

Amazon Nova Premier is our most capable model for complex tasks and teacher for model distillation:

Amazon Nova Sonic is a new foundation model that can understand voice as input and generate a human-like voice as output:

Amazon Nova Reel 1.1 enables multi-shot videos up to 2-minutes in length and provides quality and latency improvements in 6-second single-shot video generation:

Amazon Nova Act is now available without a waitlist and nova.amazon.com no longer requires a login, making it even easier to explore Amazon Nova foundation models.

Deep dives

An AI agent for data science: Amazon Q Developer in SageMaker Canvas: A new generative-AI-powered assistant that lets customers build and deploy ML models in minutes using only natural language — no ML expertise required.

Training large language models more efficiently: Using LLMs for code generation also means using them to debug the generated code. Specializing LLMs for debugging using synthetic training data and both fine tuning and reinforcement learning improves the success rate of code generation by 39%.

Automating hallucination detection with chain-of-thought reasoning: Amazon's HalluMeasure uses chain-of-thought reasoning to measure hallucination, while its fine-grained hallucination classifications enable more-targeted solutions.
