February 2025

Our latest newsletter features Amazon’s research in graph-based predictive modeling, quantum key distribution, and lightweight LLMs, plus updates on internship opportunities, upcoming symposiums, and recent award recognitions.

Deep dives

Benchmarking tool for graph-centric predictive modeling on databases: Predictive modeling over relational databases has lagged behind other areas of AI research. Amazon is addressing this gap with 4DBInfer, a set of tools that enables comparison of models across datasets, predictive tasks, and other key benchmarks.

Quantum key distribution and authentication: Separating facts from myths: “QKD doesn’t solve the authentication problem” is a misnomer, say AWS researchers: key exchange protocols and authentication mechanisms are primitives for solving distinct problems and must be integrated in a secure communication system.

Lightweight LLM for converting text to structured data: Amazon researchers introduced a specialized lightweight structured-object language model (SoLM) to address the limitations of generative models in handling unstructured or poorly structured inputs and converting them into structured objects that fit specific schemas, such as relational databases and API specifications. Unlike general-purpose LLMs, SoLM is designed to generate objects in predefined schemas.

CABS methodology: Confidence-aware substructure beam search (CABS) applies beam search at the level of the description-value pair and uses a separately trained confidence network to predict each pair's probability.

News and updates

Amazon Science 2025 internships: Science interns at Amazon have the opportunity to apply cutting-edge advances in technology to solve real-world problems. We are currently accepting applications for applied, research, and data science internships for PhD and masters students. Explore our internships, and apply for available position(s) that match your science interest and degree (you can apply to more than one, if applicable).

AI + Robotics Research Symposium: Hosted by UT's Texas Robotics and Machine Learning Lab, in collaboration with the UT Austin Amazon Science Hub, the 3-day event taking place March 4-6 will bring together top experts from academia and distinguished leaders from industry to discuss developments in machine learning and robotics. The symposium will offer opportunities to engage with cutting-edge research through lectures, interactive panels, poster sessions, and discussion.

Amazon Scholar receives prestigious awards: Congratulations to Amazon Scholar Aaditya Ramdas on receiving two prestigious honors: the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE), the highest honor bestowed by U.S. government on early-career scientists, and the Kavli Fellowship from the National Academy of Sciences, recognizing exceptional research achievements by scientists under 45.

Fascinating insights into the intersection of AI, neuroscience, and structured data! 🌍 Speaking of cutting-edge research – I've recently published the F.R.A.U.D. Model (Functional Recalibration of Adaptive Unconscious Dynamics), which explores the integration of psychotherapy, emotional regulation, and neural plasticity. In just 24 hours, it's already generating significant interest: 🚀 51 views and 31 downloads – and counting! 😎 👉 DOI: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.15022964 Would love to explore how these AI-based insights could align with trauma therapy and emotional recalibration! #AI #Neuroscience #Innovation #Psychotherapy #FRAUD #EmotionalRegulation
