A CISO-to-CISO conversation: Datadog CISO Emilio Escobar and FanDuel CISO JJ Agha discuss how CISOs can balance speed and innovation with security

This summer underscored how quickly the security landscape is changing. From Hacker Summer Camp to our inaugural Datadog Detect, our team has been engaged in conversations with practitioners, customers, and partners about the opportunities and challenges ahead for the industry.

This quarter, one theme rose above the rest: AI security. AI brings both excitement and uncertainty. It accelerates detection and response, yet expands the backlog of risks and vulnerabilities. From development to production, organizations need new approaches to secure their AI environments from end-to-end.

For CISOs, this moment highlights a broader shift. The modern CISO is no longer just a technical leader — we are business leaders, communicators, and risk managers. In the AI era, that role means balancing innovation with accountability: embracing AI’s benefits while addressing the new risks and regulatory requirements. I spoke about the evolution of the CISO’s role at length in a recent podcast, where I explored what it takes to lead security programs in today’s tech and AI-driven environments.

At Datadog, we are building with this future in mind. At DASH, we introduced Bits AI Security Analyst, alongside new end-to-end AI observability and security features. We also announced Datadog Code Security (now in GA), which helps detect and prioritize vulnerabilities in custom code and open-source libraries. These innovations enable teams to evaluate, monitor, and secure their AI systems with confidence, turning AI into a force multiplier, not a blind spot.

As we look ahead at the rest of the year and into 2026, I believe organizations best positioned for success will be those willing to experiment, adapt, and evolve their definition of security leadership. Breaches will always be a reality, but resilience will come from learning quickly and embedding security across the business.

There’s much on the horizon for Datadog and our customers, but for now, catch up on all of the innovations and insights from our partners and customers, with a closer look at how Datadog is shaping the future of security and AI.

Identify slowdowns across your entire network with Datadog Network Path

In case you missed it, we’ve also rolled out a number of features that bring even more depth and flexibility to your workflows. Here are some of the highlights:

  • Anthropic Cost Integration: Cloud Cost Management now integrates with the Anthropic Usage and Cost API, giving you visibility into Claude AI spend alongside your broader cloud costs. Learn more.
  • OCI Quickstart (GA): A streamlined way to begin monitoring your Oracle Cloud Infrastructure environment: our new OCI Quickstart collects metrics and logs across 30+ services in minutes. See how it works.
  • Datadog Network Path: Troubleshooting network issues often requires piecing together fragmented tools. With Network Path, you can now see every hop a packet takes in one view. Read more on the blog.
  • Feature Flagging: Feature releases are high-stakes moments in the software development lifecycle (SDLC). Even with modern CI/CD pipelines, many teams rely on feature flags that live outside their observability stack. This creates friction: context switching between tools, missed signals, and slower rollouts. With Datadog Feature Flags, you can bring feature management into the same platform you already monitor and secure. That means less overhead, tighter feedback loops, and faster, safer releases. Security Research: The Cloud Threat Landscape

This summer, Datadog researchers gathered with other security professionals to share security research, tips, and open source tooling to the community.

We also shared our Q2 threat roundup, which highlights notable threats and insights identified by our Security research teams. From significant patterns in the cloud threat landscape to the evolution of the Mimo threat actor, we continue to see the emphasis on software supply-chain attacks that exploit developer trust and tooling. Threat actors are also engineering more durable, cloud-native persistence, from obfuscated NPM packages to “persistence-as-a-service” in serverless environments — signaling a shift toward long-term footholds and platform-agnostic access.
