OneWeb a backbone for the G7's Digital Prosperity initiative

Between 11-13 June, leaders from the ‘G7’ will gather in Carbis Bay, Cornwall, UK to discuss how to make the World a safer and more secure place for everyone.

Under the presidency of the UK, Prime Minister Boris Johnson will be joined by political leaders from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the US to discuss a wealth of topics including the ongoing Coronavirus Pandemic; Free & Fair Trade; and Climate Change.

For the first time, the G7 will also be joined by political leaders from Australia, India, South Korea and South Africa as the organisation seeks to extend its understanding of the Indo-Pacific region.

One particular area of interest due to be discussed at the meeting is ‘Digital Trade’ and the G7’s desire to enhance the ‘Digital Health’ of member and partner nations.

Conversations will focus on the development of a “trusted, values-driven digital ecosystem that can enhance prosperity in a way that is both sustainable and inclusive”, G7 officials explained ahead of the event. Specifically, this includes ‘Internet Safety’ and ‘Diversification in Telecommunications’, officials added.

Co-owned by the British Government and Indian telecommunications giant Bharti Global, OneWeb stands ready to support the global connectivity demands of the G7 and its partner nations around the World.

The first phase of our Global Connectivity Platform, which comprises a 648-strong constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites, goes live in November this year providing fast, affordable and secure Broadband Internet to customers across North America, Europe and the Arctic.

Services will be extended to the Middle East, North Africa and the Indo-Pacific in 2022 and by 2023, OneWeb will operate a global constellation of LEO satellites, providing full commercial and mobile services on land, in the air and at sea, including the support of 5G infrastructure and the Internet of Things (IoT) to some of the most remote areas of the globe.

Supported by a global network of ground gateways and multi-domain user terminals, OneWeb customers will benefit from data rates as high as 196Mbps and latency levels as low as 50ms- ideal in supporting homeland and maritime security; peacekeeping support; and humanitarian aid/disaster relief missions anywhere in the World and at anytime.

However the G7 decides to move forward, OneWeb’s game-changing technology will satisfy the connectivity requirements of government customers around the World.
