Investments in the shadow of geopolitics
The investment climate in 2024 was negatively affected by the global economy’s continued sluggish performance and geopolitical tensions. Global flows of FDI rose moderately by 4 per cent to USD 1,509 billion, with the US as the largest recipient country. Sweden recorded a decline in FDI inflows but climbed to fourth place in Europe.
Sudden tailwinds
Despite tariff turmoil and a stronger Swedish krona, export companies are taking a brighter view of future prospects. Business Sweden’s Export Managers’ Index (EMI) rose by 4.6 points to 51.0 in the third quarter. Views of expected export demand from North America made a forceful recovery – indicating that optimism is back.
