High performance in your job does not mean no work-life balance. This is the shortcut to getting burnout. As a high-performing executive, I struggled to find a balance too. I gave my all to my previous jobs, and the results? I was burnt out completely. Dedicating my entire time and energy to work, and falsely believing I was operating at the highest potential. Nothing could be further from the truth. This led me to 2 key realizations. 1. I wanted to thrive — in both work and life 2. I needed to make lifestyle changes for a fulfilling high-performance life. Here’s how I work as a high-performance executive while living a balanced fulfilling life — → Prioritize self and set boundaries - My day starts with spending time with myself. Meditation, exercise and planning my day give me a headstart first thing in the morning. - Setting boundaries at work helps me 10x my productivity Optimize meetings and no work calls after work hours help me perform my best. → Delegate and learn to say NO - You don’t have to say yes to everything. If you have a lot on your plate, learn to say NO. Don’t chase after quantity at work. Focus on quality work. - Delegate unimportant tasks. You can focus on high performance when you focus on the most important tasks associated with your title. → Implement Time Management Techniques - Use the timeboxing technique Timeboxing helps you prioritize work, and increase your productivity levels. - Implement the Pareto principle Focus on the 20% of tasks that will generate 80% of outcomes. Focus on deep work. You can be high-performing in your job, and still lead a fulfilling life. It is possible, and it starts with small changes. If you are ready to succeed as a high-performance executive without burning out, subscribe to my newsletter ‘Level Up without Burnout’. The second most common question I answered in 2023 was, “you do so much, how do you balance it all?” The truth is that I don’t. I believe work and life balance is a myth. Instead I subscribe to a philosophy of work and life alignment and the difference isn’t simply semantics. Work & Life alignment is an active practice that recognizes that at times some priorities require more energy/focus. It’s not a magical approach. It requires clarity, consistency, community, and exceptional communication. It has not been easy for me to achieve because above all it also requires admitting personal limitations, relying on others, and SO much planning. It’s worth it! Done correctly it’s almost like having a Time Machine—- almost. Here are a few tips on how to get started. 💪🌍✨ 1️⃣ Set Clear Priorities: Define your goals and values, both personally and professionally. Clarify what truly matters to you and ensure your actions align with your priorities. This clarity will guide your decisions and help you navigate the path of work-life harmony more effectively. Know your “thrive zone” and maximize the time you spend there. ⚖️❤️ 2️⃣ Cultivate Boundaries: Establish healthy boundaries between work and personal life. Learn to prioritize self-care without guilt and create dedicated time for family, hobbies, and personal growth. By setting clear boundaries, you create space for all aspects of your life to flourish. Self-care IS NOT selfish! 🌸🌳 3️⃣ Foster Inclusion: Embrace diversity and foster an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and heard. (Having people in your life whose thrive zones are your shadow zones is transformative!) Encourage collaboration, actively seek diverse perspectives, and create opportunities for growth and development for all. Together, we can achieve incredible results through the power of inclusion. 🌈🚀 4️⃣ Be Intentional: Live with intention and purpose in all that you do. Regularly assess your goals, values, and aspirations. Ensure that your work aligns with your higher purpose, bringing fulfillment and joy to your professional journey. Remember, intentional actions lead to meaningful outcomes. Leave room for chaos- life is not always neat 🎯✨ 5️⃣ Seek Support: Surround yourself with a supportive network. Seek mentors, coaches, and like-minded professionals who can guide and inspire you on your journey. Embrace opportunities to learn and grow, and never hesitate to ask for help when needed. Together, we can achieve greatness. 🤝💼 6️⃣ ACTIVELY AVOID TIME SPONGES!!! Sometimes saying goodbye is the best productivity tool! By implementing these best practices, we can create a work-life alignment that nurtures our well-being, enhances our professional performance, and uplifts those around us. It’s amazing how much you can get done this way #WorkLifeAlignment #InclusionBestPractices #IntentionalLiving #Success #PassionAndPurpose

I stopped buying into the traditional concept of "work-life balance". For the longest time, it implied a neat, tidy equilibrium and separation between my professional and personal life. But I have learned these worlds for me, are more fluid by intention and by choice. I leverage experiences to enhance my full life, whether they be professional experiences and connections to people that enhance my personal life or vice versa. We can hustle, working tirelessly and mindlessly, and think "one day, I'll prioritize my time for what really matters.” I've made the decision to begin living how I want to NOW — not for a distant someday. This shift isn't just for myself; it's a part of our family's story. I want to be a representation, in developing and raising 3 strong daughters: of how embracing the beauty of our professional and personal worlds can create a life that's truly fulfilling. To create synergy between work and personal life: 1. Set clear boundaries for how you spend your time. 2. Prioritize high-impact tasks at work. 3. Use energy (+time) management techniques. 4. Delegate and outsource tasks. 5. Set realistic (SMART) goals. 6. Embrace flexibility if possible. 7. Prioritize self-care and wellness. 8. Focus on QUALITY over quantity, always. 9. Learn to say no when necessary. 10. Take time to acknowledge what is working for you, and what isn’t - and tweak it accordingly. How do you create synergy and balance?

🕰️ Time is our most precious resource, and in today's fast-paced world, finding a perfect work-life balance can seem like a daunting task. But what if we shift our perspective from "work-life balance" to "work-life integration"? Embracing this concept can empower us to achieve harmony between our personal and professional lives, allowing us to thrive both at work and at home. 🏡💼 🌱 Work-life integration is not about strict boundaries, but rather about finding synergies and interconnections between our personal and professional responsibilities. It enables us to be present in the moment, whether we are at the office, spending time with loved ones, or pursuing personal passions. By blending the two aspects, we can create a fulfilling and purpose-driven life. 💫 💡 Here are some strategies that have helped me in my journey towards work-life integration: 1️⃣ Prioritize and Set Boundaries: Identify your core values and priorities in both work and personal life. Communicate these priorities clearly with your team, colleagues, and family. Set boundaries to protect quality time for both spheres. 2️⃣ Flexible Schedules: Advocate for flexible work arrangements that allow you to accommodate personal commitments and manage your workload effectively. Flexibility fosters productivity and reduces stress. 3️⃣ Embrace Technology Mindfully: Leverage technology to work smarter, not harder. Utilize productivity tools, time management apps, and communication platforms to streamline tasks and free up more time for personal pursuits. 4️⃣ Practice Self-Care: Take care of yourself physically and mentally. Prioritize self-care activities such as exercise, meditation, hobbies, and spending time outdoors. A healthy and energized you is more productive in all aspects of life. 5️⃣ Communicate and Delegate: Open communication with colleagues and family members is key. Don't hesitate to delegate tasks at work and share household responsibilities at home. 6️⃣ Be Present: When at work, be fully engaged in the tasks at hand. When spending time with loved ones, be present and attentive. Quality over quantity makes all the difference. 🤝 Let's support each other on this journey towards work-life integration. Share your tips and experiences in the comments below. How do you strike a balance between work and personal life? By finding a balance between family time and personal growth, you can turn your aspirations into achievements. 💫 These tips will transform the way you balance it all: • 𝗕𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗮𝗻 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗿: Wake up before the rest of the family to get a head start on your day. Use this quiet time for tasks that require concentration or for self-care. • 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲: Learn to identify what's most important and focus on those tasks. Politely declining invitations and requests that don't align with your priorities. • 𝗦𝗲𝘁 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗚𝗼𝗮𝗹𝘀: Break down your big goals into smaller, more manageable tasks and celebrate small victories to stay motivated. • 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗹𝗲, 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗹𝗲, 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗹𝗲: Plan activities and chores in blocks, leaving room for both focused work and quality family time. • 𝗢𝘂𝘁𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲: Your time is valuable. Balance boosted my productivity by almost 50%. Recall a time when long hours left you drained, not productive? I do! Not anymore. Here’s my non-secret secret: A balance between life and work. Many believe long hours = productivity. I used to think so too! As an engineer, PM, and now an executive with years of experience in the AEC industry, I've learned a thing or two about productivity.  In our work-centric culture, balance is often overlooked. But here’s the truth: Exhaustion kills productivity. You can’t be your best if you’re mentally and physically drained. Productivity isn’t about relentless work. It’s about smart work. Here’s how balance boosts productivity: 1. Recharge & Refuel: Taking time off helps you detach and recharge. You come back with energy and fresh perspectives. 2. Health is Wealth: Regular breaks, sleep, exercise, and good nutrition boost mental clarity and focus. 3. Add a Dose of Creativity: Hobbies and time with loved ones spark creativity—crucial for problem-solving and innovation. 4. Reduced Stress Levels: Balance reduces stress and anxiety, improving job satisfaction and work quality. Shift the narrative from hard work to holistic well-being and balance. Remember: Your worth isn’t measured by productivity. You are more than your work! If you’re struggling with work-life balance: 1. Set clear boundaries. 2. Delegate tasks. 3. Take regular breaks. 4. Prioritize self-care. 5. A balanced life leads to greater productivity. Here's to a more balanced and productive life!

Forget work-life balance. Try work-life synergy. Synergy creates more impact. As a 14-year entrepreneur, I don’t have a choice BUT to integrate my personal and professional life. Here are a few tips that help me: → Align Goals: Make sure your personal and professional goals support each other. → Blend Activities: Combine work and leisure, like walking meetings or working from your backyard. (This beach is my summer backyard). → Time Block: Schedule dedicated blocks of time for both work tasks and personal activities to ensure neither is neglected. → Set Boundaries: Define work and personal time, but allow for flexibility. And don’t freak out if something comes up last minute. Integrating work and life is far less stressful than having them battle each other. You simply have to set the expectations with your loved ones and come up with a system that works for you. Don’t let someone else dictate how you manage your work and life. As my friend Richie Norton says, “Intentional living is the art of making our own choices before others' choices make us.” By the way, his book Anti-Time Management is a must-have if you want to start living life on your terms while not sacrificing work or family time. I’m curious, how do you create work-life synergy? P.S. Some days here in Hawaii, I have this entire backyard beach to myself. 😍
