Extreme heat in the eastern U.S. sparks a scramble to protect the vulnerable

With record-high temperatures expected through Saturday, summer camp directors, nonprofit leaders and local officials are racing to keep children and older people safe.

Around 160 million people were under extreme heat warnings or advisories Wednesday as a dangerous heat wave continues to blanket much of the eastern half of the country. Parts of Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Massachusetts and North Carolina could set record highs through Saturday.
