Ohio Car Dealership Owner Charged for Fraud Scheme Involving Trafficking Counterfeit Airbags From China

On August 18, 2026, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio, the U.S. Attorney filed an information charging John Bojorquez, owner of JB Ohio Auto Sale, with trafficking in counterfeit goods.

From August 2024 to May 2025, Bojorquez intentionally imported automotive steering wheel airbags from China containing counterfeit marks of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. The counterfeit airbags do not meet the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards and are known to over pressurize and violently rupture during minor crashes, sometimes spraying lethal metal shrapnel into the vehicle.

DOT-OIG is conducting this investigation with Homeland Security Investigations.
