In less than a week, Spider-Man: Brand New Day raked in $1 billion worldwide and had the biggest box office opening weekend in Hollywood history. The feature has been a reminder of why Sony is probably never going to give up the Spider-Man film rights, and highlighted how Marvel Studios was smart to strike a deal to bring the character into its own films. But as successful as Brand New Day has been, the larger MCU has been stuck in a confounding slump for the past few years. And while this latest Spider-Man movie was truly excellent, it's not necessarily a sign that Marvel has figured out how to get things back on track.

Mike Flanagan's latest Stephen King adaptation, Carrie (this will be his fourth), is slated to make its debut on Amazon Prime on October 7th. The new trailer dropped at Comic-Con 2026 and doesn't contain many surprises. If you're familiar with Carrie at all, it hits all the expected notes, though it's clearly been updated for the modern era.

According to Deadline, Flanagan's take on the classic King novel will tackle very modern teen challenges like active shooter drills and bullying on social media. The director apparently invited high schoolers into the writers' room, using their real-life traumas to inform the script:

Marvel announces Ryan Gosling as Ghost Rider, a new Black Panther, and more

While perhaps less dramatic than in years past, Marvel nonetheless had some big reveals lined up for Comic-Con. The highest profile was certainly the announcement that Ryan Gosling would be joining the MCU as Ghost Rider, with the Shawn Levy-directed (Deadpool & Wolverine) standalone feature set to drop sometime in 2028.

The studio also brought out Ryan Coogler, who officially confirmed Black Panther III is slated for release on December 15th, 2028. He also introduced David Jonsson (The Long Walk, Alien Romulus) as T'Challa's son and the new Black Panther in the franchise.

While Kara Zor-El's appearance at the end of James Gunn's Superman was a very pleasant surprise, Warner Bros. Discovery's plan to fast-track a standalone Supergirl feature always felt a little dubious. It seemed odd that, after Superman, the studio wanted to flesh out its new cinematic universe with films about another Kryptonian and one of Batman's less notable villains. But Gunn implored fans to have faith in his vision and trust that the DCU would become a world of interconnected stories that put WBD's last batch of comic book movies to shame.

Canvas, Webtoon's platform for user-uploaded comics, is about to get a major overhaul that's designed to help creators make more money and share their art with a wider audience.

Japan's anti-piracy coalition says that one of the world's largest manga piracy networks has been shut down following a coordinated investigation between Japanese publishers and Chinese authorities. The Content Overseas Distribution Association (CODA) announced the arrest of an individual on suspicion of copyright infringement on November 19th, who "has admitted to operating" Bato.to and approximately 60 related sites, such as xbato.com and mangapark.io.
