VLJ’s mission is to ensure access to justice for people experiencing poverty. In 2024, VLJ’s work impacted nearly 4,500 people—including 1,661 children—and 665 volunteer attorneys donated $2.2 million in free civil legal services.

While her day-to-day work involves complex patent law, she volunteers with VLJ's Tenancy Program, using her legal talent to keep families safely housed at home.
Volunteer Lawyers for Justice (VLJ) is deeply saddened by the passing of Maureen McCully Winograd, affectionately known as "Mo," a visionary and beloved founding director of VLJ. Mo passed away at the age of 79 on Friday, September 5.
