Behind the scenes at REPMUS. We asked Christian Napolitano to take us through a day on site with the STARK team at NATO’s annual experimentation exercise in Portugal. Follow the team as they prepare our Vanta unmanned surface vessels and put them through their paces at sea. We’re excited to be back this year with an even bigger fleet. #REPMUS26

Swindon has been building things for well over a century, and has never been far from the armed forces. From the railway works, to automotive, to uncrewed systems. It is one of the leading centres in Europe for drone and autonomy work, and STARK is the latest in a long line of companies that came here to be at the cutting edge of industry. The first week of September brought two reminders of what that means in practice. At STEAM for the SDO Associates #UncrewedSystemsNetwork, I was back in the room where I stood in April and said STARK had come here to build with the companies in it rather than around them. I was glad to return with something concrete to point to: a number of those suppliers are now in our supply chain and delivering. Much of the panel came back to sovereignty, which is the right question for this sector to be asking itself. We have a hundred people in the UK inside twelve months. Our engineering and R&D capability is being built out on site. We manufacture here, with British suppliers in the chain and delivering into the factory. And we are building for what UK Defence has said it needs. This is why we are proud to support the coalition around the Uncrewed Systems Network. Nobody scales a sector this new on their own, and the industrial base this country needs will be built by a coalition of companies working alongside government. The same week, I joined local MP and defence business champion, Will Stone MP, at the Royal British Legion Club in Stratton. STARK is committed to delivering impact in the community where it operates, and has supported the renovation work at the Legion. Will has tirelessly led the fundraiser, and it is the last Legion club left in Swindon. We employ people who have served, and clubs like that one are where veterans and their families gather. There are clubs like it all over the country, holding things together on very little money. I am proud that STARK can play a part in the club’s next chapter. STARK is approaching one year of operations in the UK in November. There will be plenty more to come.

We had a great morning at STARK on Thursday! 🙌 Lisa, our Apprenticeship Business Manager and Amanda, one of our trainers, visited the team to welcome their two newest apprentices, and complete their inductions. Both are starting their Level 3 Improvement Technician Apprenticeship and it was great to meet them as they begin their programmes. A big thank you to STARK for having us and good luck to both Apprentices – we’re looking forward to supporting you throughout your apprenticeships! 👏

Germany has chosen VANTA. Now Nordic production is next. A significant milestone has been reached for STARK’s VANTA USV. STARK has delivered the first VANTA-based unmanned surface vessel to the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr), where the six-metre platform will operate under the name Seetaube (shearwater). Initially deployed for maritime reconnaissance, Seetaube is designed to strengthen situational awareness at sea and support the early detection and precise localisation of suspicious activity. For us at Seasight Solutions, the delivery is also an important confirmation of the potential we see in VANTA. Built for enduring, scalable defence at sea, VANTA combines autonomous operation, high speed, long endurance and modular payload capabilities in a compact platform designed for missions ranging from maritime surveillance and harbour protection to more advanced operational roles. And now the next chapter begins. As STARK’s production partner, we're preparing to manufacture VANTA systems for the Nordic markets. Congratulations to the STARK team on an important milestone. #SeasightSolutions #STARK #VANTA #USV #Defence #MaritimeDefence #UnmannedSystems
