Konradin Breyer hat dies geteiltExit von Forget Finance! 💫 Mit einem weinendem und einem lachenden Auge geht eine intensive Startup-Achterbahnfahrt nach fünf Jahren zu Ende. Nachdem letztes Jahr das Funding für FinTechs um 75% eingebrochen ist, haben wir parallel nach strategischen Partnern gesucht. Eine spannende Phase mit spannenden Gesprächen von Startup bis Großbank. Dieser Weitblick hat sich ausgezahlt. Das Ergebnis überrascht uns selbst und hat unsere Erwartungen an einen M&A Prozess übertroffen: Wir sind überglücklich, heute den Verkauf unserer Technologie – die Forget Finance App und Infrastruktur – an LIQID verkünden zu dürfen. Jurek Herwig und ich wechseln ins Management von LIQID und treiben dort die digitale Produktentwicklung voran. Jurek als CTO und ich als Director Product Strategy. Unsere Mission, intuitivere und intelligentere Finanzprodukte zu entwickeln geht also weiter und wir können endlich schneller skalieren. Außerdem haben wir eine 4-stellige Anzahl von Kund:innen und 8-stellige Investments (AuM) erfolgreich an unseren geschätzten Partner Evergreen GmbH übertragen. Uns war wichtig, dass das Geld unserer Kund:innen wie bisher optimal verwaltet wird. Beim Wechsel wurden keine Fonds verkauft und keine Steuern ausgelöst. Wir konnten unseren Kund:innen sogar Vorteile durch weitere Features und geringere Gebühren auf der Evergreen Plattform sichern. 2020 haben Jurek und ich Forget Finance gegründet und mit viel Leidenschaft mit unserem Team die – aus unserer Sicht ;) – intuitivste #Investment-App in Deutschland gebaut. LIQID ist mit ihrer exklusiven #Vermögensverwaltung, #PrivateEquity und #VentureCapital Produkten ist genau komplementär zu dem Tech- und #UX-Fokus, mit dem wir Forget Finance aufgebaut haben. Letztes Jahr hatte ich Glück und habe auf der Konferenz Jes Hennig kennen gelernt, damals noch als Gründer und CEO von pockid / Ruuky. Schwuppdiwupp wurde er ein paar Monate später darauf Teil von Forget Finance und ergänzt Jurek und mich im Gründerteam. Mit Jes haben wir unsere Mission weiterentwickelt und im März Europas erste Investment-App für Paare gelauncht. Konradin Breyer hat dies geteilt#kointorial Die Aktien sind +20% gestiegen – ist jetzt ein guter Zeitpunkt, um Cash zu parken und auf den nächsten Crash zu warten? Kurze Antwort: Nein. Mit diesem Mindset verpasst man die besten Börsenphasen. Und meistens wartet man dann bei einem Crash, dass es "noch viel tiefer fällt". Steigende Kurse an der Börse liegen in der Natur der Sache. Die Kapitalmärkte haben einen langfristigen Aufwärtstrend, deshalb investiert man ja. Deshalb sind "Neue Rekordstände" von #Dax oder #MSCIWorld kein Warnsignal, dass man wieder aussteigen und abwarten sollte. Deshalb nerven mich solche Headlines bei der Tagesschau, denn sie verunsichern einfach nur. Wer gar nicht erst versucht den Markt zu timen, schafft es "so früh wie möglich" in den Markt zu kommen: "Time in the market beats timing the market." Egal ob die Sparraten vom monatlichen Gehalt, Geld was man aus Versehen auf dem Girokonto aufgetürmt hat oder ein großes Erbe. Einfach so früh wie möglich investieren, ohne die Kurse zu checken. Hierbei beziehe ich mich auf langfristige Investments mit Geld, welches man auch wirklich langfristig zur Seite legen kann und nicht für andere Ziele braucht. Ich habe nichts dagegen, Marktphasen zu nutzen, um die bisherige Untätigkeit zu überwinden. Also z.B. bei einem Crash endlich ins Tun zu kommen. Oder sich bei einem Börsen-Hoch von Investments zu trennen, die man eh loswerden wollte. Aber eigentlich hat man dann schon zu lange gewartet und bekommt nur ein kleines Trostpflaster vom Markt. Und ihr? Schon wieder ausgestiegen? Oder seid ihr prozyklisch unterwegs und habt jetzt erst wieder angefangen, nachdem der Schock von Ukraine, Inflation, Energiekrise (zumindest an der Börse) überwunden war?

Easier to write than to do, but we're trying, and we're now hiring across four senior roles. LIQID is growing, and the teams building our product are growing with it. All of these come with real ownership from day one and room to shape how the work gets done. We're currently looking for: 🧩 Engineering Lead – Lead one of our engineering teams together with our Head of Engineering Michael: own its delivery, its technical direction, and grow the people in it. ⚙️ Senior Software Engineer – Work with Michael and his teams on our internal wealth management system. This one is backend heavy. Konradin Breyer gefällt dasKonradin Breyer gefällt dasI used to be a terrible delegator. I loved being the one who fixed the hard bugs and stayed deep in the code. Took me a while to see it: solving things yourself makes you good, but real leverage is when ten other people can do it too. What I was proudest of was exactly what held me back. Last week my CTO Office team ran an AI workshop: Gesine, Carla, Florian, Greta. We shared how each of us actually works with AI, and the old lesson clicked all over again. The ones getting real value out of AI weren’t collecting tools, they were delegating properly. Hand work off cleanly, say what good looks like, and prompt again when it comes back not quite right. That reframed it for me: a good AI setup is a delegation system. You learn its strengths and weaknesses, you notice which things it handles beautifully and which ones need more context. The trap is the same one I fell into long before AI. Every time you quietly fix it yourself, you skip the only part that matters: the feedback. So the question isn't just which tool to use. It's whether you're actually delegating, or just handing it over and taking it back the moment it's not perfect.

A few weeks ago I wrote that my team was doing such good work they didn’t really need me in the code anymore. I framed it as a kind ask: save me a seat. What I didn’t say then is how that actually feels. Watching experienced people take over things I used to own pokes at something, and it isn’t the skill gap itself. It’s that for years, my sense of what I contributed came from being the one who builds the thing. When someone builds it better, the question that starts to form is “who am I now, if not the maker?” Take databases. I always thought I had a decent sense for how to structure them. Then yesterday Kris walked me through what good database design really means in a regulated business, and I saw how much better he is at it, in the one corner of the craft I was quietly proud of. Thank you for that, Kris. That’s the moment the slogan stopped being a slogan. My job isn’t to have the best answer in the room. It’s to make sure the best answer gets found, by whoever has it. That’s a different kind of work, and a harder one. So I read “hire people better than you” differently now. It isn’t about humility. It’s the whole strategy. A team that doesn’t need me isn’t a hole in my role. It’s the thing I was trying to build the entire time. I still save myself a seat in the code. I just stopped pretending the seat is what makes me useful.

Seit dieser Woche rückt zusätzlich die Eskalation im Nahen Osten in den Fokus. Dabei geraten frühere Kriege und humanitäre Krisen schnell in den Hintergrund. Genau das passiert auch mit der Situation afghanischer Frauen. Unter der Herrschaft der Taliban wurde Frauen in Afghanistan seit 2022 der Zugang zu Hochschulbildung verwehrt. I took the rest of the year off – fully offline, fully present. Best decision I've made in a while. Also the most sleep-deprived, but that's a different post. This year, I'm back at work as an independent advisor. My focus: the Scaling Gap – that phase between Seed and Series B where early-stage improvisation starts to break, but rigid corporate structures aren't yet the answer. It's a System Architect role: helping founders build the operational systems for what comes next. Org design, decision-making clarity, KPIs that actually work, strategic transitions. This builds on three perspectives I've developed over the years: - The analytical rigor from a decade at BCG. - The pattern recognition from launching 10+ companies at Atlantic Labs. - And the founder empathy from building ventures myself – including the full rollercoaster from zero to millions raised to shutdown.
