Widow’s Bay was the place to be Monday as the Apple TV freshman capped a dominant night with the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series. The win was its sixth of the night, making it 14 overall this year — a single-year record for a comedy — after its eight wins during last weekend’s dual Creative Arts ceremonies.

On a night where history has been made on multiple fronts, The Pitt made it 2-for-2. HBO Max’s sophomore medical show won its second consecutive Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series to go with a Lead Actor triumph for Noah Wyle and four Creative Arts wins. The award was presented by Charlie’s Angels stars Kate Jackson, Jaclyn Smith and Cheryl Ladd, who reunited to mark their landmark cop drama’s 50th anniversary and remembered their late co-star Farrah Fawcett.

The Pitt came into this year’s race with 25 nominations to lead all programs; Widow’s Bay had 19. See the full list of Primetime winners below, along with lists of wins by program and platform.
Earlier, Matthew Rhys got a standing ovation as he made Emmy history — twice. He became the first actor to win across all three lead categories (Comedy, Drama & Limited Series/Movie) and is the first man to win two lead acting awards in the same year. He took the Comedy prize Monday for Apple TV’s Widow’s Bay and Limited/Anthology Series or Movie for Netflix’s The Beast in Me. The wins were the second and third of his career.

The Pitt star Wyle also repeated his Lead Actor in a Drama Series win. It’s his third career Emmy, having won last year as a producer of for the HBO Max hospital show.
Rhea Seehorn earlier won Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Apple TV’s freshman Pluribus, her first win after two noms for Better Call Saul.

David Harbour also beat out his co-star Jason Bateman for supporting actor in HBO Max’s DTF St. Louis – headmitted it wasn’t a fair fight – while their co-star Linda Cardellini won for supporting actress. Their boss, DTF creator Steve Conrad, also triumphed in the directing and writing categories. No Emmy awarded
Was very happy and proud to see that the entertainment industry gave Stephen Colbert the respect and honor that he was due. Not so happy with best actress in comedy. With all the comedic talent there is why is it always Jean smart? I am not saying she is not good, but really her’s is the only outstanding performance year after year? Need to try to recognize more than her.
Weird – I’m old enough to remember when awards for comedy series (especially the actors) actually went to shows that were comedies.
Like sure there’s some funny stuff in the Bear and Widow’s Bay.
But out of 30 minutes plus for those episodes there’s maybe 2 minutes of comedy spread throughout?
And I love Betty Gilpin but did they even have a single clip to show of her being funny from her guest stint?
I laughed like a hyena at Widow’s Bay. (Not at The Bear, that is not a comedy at all.)
Betty Gilpin’s character wasn’t doing standup cracking jokes in the 17th Century. Her performance itself was comedic. Maybe this is something you just can see, or not.
The whole show is like that. Example, one of Gilpin’s stepsons was named “Cromwell.” That’s funny. But it does require a certain education level to get the joke. I think Widow’s Bay is just flying right over a lot of people’s heads.
You know, thank you for whoever made this list. EXACTLY what I wanted to read.
no Interview With The Vampire, s1 or s2, will forever be crazy to me, easily best show on TV
The Emmy’s people watch too few shows, which results in too many nominations from a small roster of shows like The Pitt or Hacks.
What if there are great performances in shows that won’t be nominated for Best Drama or Comedy? Your Friends & Neighbors, Welcome to Derry, Murderbot or most egregiously, The Boys?
Sooo true!!!! Gosh it was epic. And the sassiness of Season 3 is golden.
Stephen Colbert finally wins Emmys as he gets kicked out the door!
Colbert won an emmy last year as well.
Yep, he sure did! At least he got the last laugh during his last season. I still DO NOT BUY the story that CBS canceled Stephen Colbert’s show because of finances. I still say that he was fired because the Orange Cheeto ordered it.
He’s not funny how about that’s the reason.
