RIP
[edit]- I'm sorry to report that this user passed away on 5 April 2022. Anyone who would like verification of his passing can feel free to email me, but as far as I know he never revealed his real name onwiki so I'm not comfortable with connecting the dots publicly. I can't find a public obituary but I can find enough information that there's no reason to doubt that this user is deceased. I remember him as a prolific contributor to Australian topics, particularly on the Australian Wikipedians' notice board but he also frequently edited television articles on here. I'll write an obituary at Wikipedia:Deceased Wikipedians/2022#AussieLegend in due course, that anyone is free to edit. I found out about this situation due to a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Deceased Wikipedians#User:AussieLegend. Deepest condolences to his family and friends. - Thanks very much, Graham87. AussieLegend faced serious illness with great courage. In solidarity, Miniapolis 22:37, 8 August 2026 (UTC)
- I remember AussieLegend from the editing areas we had frequent crossover in. I was surprised and saddened to see this. I'm tired right now so this feels clumsy, but I'd like to also offer my condolences. - Purplewowies (talk) 09:04, 14 August 2026 (UTC)
- A true legend and a serious loss, rest in peace AussieLegend. Sophisticatedevening(talk) 16:22, 24 August 2026 (UTC)
- Should Aussie's family happen to read this, I always had a great deal of respect for the gent. He was a great admin and he taught me a good deal when I was a wet-behind-the-ears admin. He was friendly and our interactions were always pleasant, so I always enjoyed interacting with him. So sorry for your loss. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 04:07, 27 August 2026 (UTC)
- @Cyphoidbomb: He was the epitome of an admin without tools, I guess you could say. As it happens, way back you participated in a conversation on his talk page encouraging him to become an admin, just before you yourself became one. I think he would've wielded the mop well had he taken it up, as I'm sure you'd agree. Graham87 (talk) 16:22, 27 August 2026 (UTC)
- A terrible loss for the project. Belated condolences to their family friends and loved ones. Memory Eternal! -Ad Orientem (talk) 04:19, 27 August 2026 (UTC)
Hi, just to let you know that I'm running The Asia-Oceania Destubathon in November. £2000 (about AU$3,796.66) in prizes. It would be great to see content improved for Australia and the Pacific region as part of this. I had hoped the Wikimedia Australia chapter could put up prizes for most destubs by territory/state to reinforce the prizes, but at present it's a prize for Australia and a few other areas. Sign up if interested, I'm sure there are a lot of stale old Australia articles needing destubbing! If it is a success, perhaps next year we could do something specifically for Australia or regional Pacific. Thanks.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:07, 26 October 2026 (UTC)
