Minor edits

[edit]

Information icon I noticed that you have marked all of your edits as minor. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia. It refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. You can read more at Help:Minor edit. To keep improving the Wikipedia articles. 1.What is copyright: copyright is the legal right of the owner of intellectual property, many types of work are eligible for copyright protection. 2. How is Wikipedia license: this deals with the official permission or permit to do,used or Own something and the license is only given or granted by the official or the administrator on Wikipedia. 3. Why is copyright content not allowed on Wikipedia: Because a copyright holder cannot both retain non free copyright else were over their content and license it at the same time under one license permission Because, Wikipedia license scheme required that it's reader and end users be able to reuse the content under the Free license notice that is pasted at the bottom of every work. 4. Under what circumstances can we used copyright content: Yes we can used copyright content wen there is no way or no other options in getting the accurate information that we need to be provide to our user's. 5. Good day Admin, For about 4 months now, I have been blocked from editing the English Wikipedia on the account of Copy right violation. I have read the copy right violation policy and understand my wrongs. I am appealing that the account be unblock. And I promised to be more careful with my edits going forward. Request reason:

I was blocked for trying to copying the vision and mission statement of Taraba State University, I also tried same thing in Nasarawa State University, and I didn't know it was an offence because I wasn't aware of what is called copyright violation even though several users were trying to point me to the page to read about it, because I was naive, I couldn't see that.

I now know that I should not be copying text contents directly from copyrighted sources and pasting on English Wikipedia. I now know that I should be writing text on English Wikipedia in my own words, summarizing what the sources say and not copying directly and pasting here.

I was asked some questions previously which I couldn't answer correctly, I now have answers for them based on my understanding right now:

  1. What is copyright:
    • Copyright is a type of intellectual property which gives its owner the exclusive legal right to display, distribute, adapt, copy and perform a creative work.
  2. How is Wikipedia licensed?
  3. Why is copyrighted content not allowed on Wikipedia?
    • Copyrighted Content is not allowed because it violates the terms of the copyright law, it also makes Wikimedia Foundation to stay on safer corners and avoid petitions to be filed against the organization.
  4. Under what circumstances can we use copyrighted content?
    • When you say "copyright content", for text content, we cannot bring them to Wikipedia because especially if it is licensed incompatibly with Wikipedia's license. Unless a text is licensed CC-BY-SA 4.0 or is in the public domain, we cannot copy them here. Almost same for images too, although fair use can allow us to upload images here, free images better be uploaded to WikiCommons.
  5. How do you intend to avoid violating the copyright policy in the future?
    • I will now make sure text I use are summarized in my own words and understanding before using them on Wikipedia. I will also keep the copyright policy in mind to guide me. I previously said I will get permission from the copyright holder, no, I don't think I need to do that when I can simply write in my own words then use my own words here. Most importantly, I now know that things like mission and vision statements should not even be put on Wikipedia as it might not be encyclopedic.

I hope I am given a second chance to edit English Wikipedia. Muktee1494 (talk) 09:29, 17 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Accept reason:

  • As a follow up to question 2, what does the CC BY-SA 4.0 license allow?
  • Your answer to question 4 is not quite correct. We do allow brief quotations from copyrighted text. We also accept other kinds of open licenses so long as they are compatible with Wikipedia's licensing.
  • Could you please summarize the mission statement of Taraba State University in your own words?
voorts (talk/contributions) 19:22, 19 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

@Voorts: I’m grateful for the reply sir. The CC BY-SA 4.0 allows anyone to copy, redistribute, remix, transform, and build upon the material for any purpose, even commercially, as long as proper attribution is given and any new works are shared under the same license, this is what I understand of the license and I stand to be corrected. I am grateful for telling me about how I did with my answer to question 4, I am still learning. I summarize TSU’s mission like this: TSU seeks to promote intellectual growth by equipping both men and women with the skills, knowledge, and values they need to succeed. The university emphasizes developing mental and physical competencies while instilling the right attitudes to support societal wellbeing. Muktee1494 (talk) 21:11, 19 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Your submission at Articles for creation: sandbox (October 25)

[edit]
Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed. Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by DoubleGrazing was:
This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia.
Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmit after they have been resolved.

Your submission at Articles for creation: Sabil Academy (April 13)

[edit]
Draft declined
Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia. Your draft submission to Articles for creation has been reviewed but not accepted at this time.
Feedback
The reviewer, Bonadea, left the following feedback:
This draft's references do not show that the subject meets Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion for organizations and companies. The draft requires multiple published secondary sources that:
  • provide significant coverage: discuss the subject in detail, excluding routine coverage like product launches, staff appointments, or financial reports and listings in databases or listicles;
  • are reliable: from reputable outlets with editorial oversight;
  • are independent: not connected to the subject, such as press releases, the subject's own website, or sponsored content.
Please add references that meet all three of these criteria. If none exist, the subject is not yet suitable for Wikipedia.
No sources.

Next steps

  • Edit Draft:Sabil Academy to address the points above, making sure to publish any changes.
  • When you are ready to resubmit your draft for review, click the Resubmit button.
  • If you do not edit your draft in the next 6 months, it may be deleted.

Mirrors

[edit]

Information icon Thanks for contributing to the article Merchant. However, one of Wikipedia's core policies is that material must be verifiable and attributed to reliable sources. You have recently used citations which copied, or mirrored, material from Wikipedia. This leads to a circular reference and is not acceptable. Most mirrors are clearly labeled as such, but some are in violation of our license and do not provide the correct attribution. Please help by adding alternate sources to the article you edited! If you need any help or clarification, you can look at Help:Contents/Editing Wikipedia or ask at Wikipedia:New contributors' help page, or just ask me. Thank you. Looks like you've just added more unreliable sources and mirrors. Obviously "avoid blogs and social media" is not sufficient in any way, shape, or form. Please stop adding sources until you have a handle on this - it's very time consuming to clean that up. Sam Kuru (talk) 12:01, 17 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
