Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Regarding your recent edits to I'm Telling the Truth but I'm Lying when you modified the page, you introduced unknown parameters. Just because you specify |some_param=some_variable does not always mean that variable will display. The |some_param= must be defined in the template. You can look at the documentation for the template you are using but it is also helpful to use the preview button before you save your edit; this helps you find any errors you have made and ensure that the values you have added are displaying correctly. Below the edit box is a Show preview button. Pressing this will show you what the page will look like without actually saving it. It is strongly recommended that you use this before saving. Note I have likely fixed the error by now so check the history of the page to see how it was fixed. If you have any questions, contact the help desk for assistance. Thank you. TFA

Thank you today for The Path to Rome, introduced: "One of my great intellectual weaknesses is that I love the works of Hilaire Belloc, a cantankerous and shamelessly partisan curmudgeon, oft-criticized for his lack of fact checking, oft-lauded for his incisive attacks on Whig history, but maybe best known for his (possibly negative) influence on G. K. Chesterton. This book contrasts with his main body of work in that it is an absolute delight and filled to the gills with joy. Describing his 1901 pilgrimage on foot from the town of Toul to the Vatican, newer reprints of this book have subtitled it "A Portrait of Western Europe Before the World Wars" and for good reason. The tale also contains poetry, "enchanted cigarettes", praise of windows, horse slapping, verbal abuse, arguments with an imagined reader, divine intervention, imprisonment, and a perilous fight against a midsummer blizzard. This book was my "trench companion" during some difficult years of my life and I am pleased to make this my second FAC" Enjoy your second TFA day, and the third is around the corner! -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:19, 29 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Thank you today for Old Frisian, introduced: "Unlike its better-known and more poetic English cousin, Old Frisian is the language of lawyers under fire. Spoken by Frisians under siege from both sides of the Lauwers, virtually all Old Frisian attestations come from legal documents. I believe I've beaten this article into being one of the better publicly-accessible resources for the topic. The page touches on both history and linguistics, given the general messiness of classification, periodization, and phylogeny surrounding the language, so anyone interested in the Late Middle Ages or its transition to the early modern period will hopefully find something of interest here."! -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:50, 2 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Good article nominations RfC

[edit]

Hi ThaesOfereode,

There is an ongoing Request for Comment (RfC) at Wikipedia:Good article nominations/August 2026 RfC, which you may be interested in because in the past year, you have nominated or reviewed more than one good article nomination. This message has also been sent to all subscribers to the Good Article Gazette. The RfC contains many proposals (33 at the time of writing), which are split into the following categories: nominators, reviewers, reviews, volunteer roles, reviewing initiatives, and others. However, you are more than welcome to add any proposals of your own that you wish to put to the community.

By the end of September, all the proposals will have been closed by an uninvolved editor, either as a consensus for one of the options or with no consensus. At this point, editors will be invited again to develop these proposals into coherent policy and implement them.

Thank you for your contributions to the good articles project, and I look forward to your input! (in solidarity), JacobTheRox(talk|contributions) 16:03, 11 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Autopatrolled granted

[edit]

Hi ThaesOfereode, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the autopatrolled user right to your account. This means that pages you create will automatically be marked as 'reviewed', and no longer appear in the new pages feed. Autopatrolled is assigned to prolific creators of articles, where those articles do not require further review, and may have been requested on your behalf by someone else. It doesn't affect how you edit; it is used only to manage the workload of new page patrollers.

Since the articles you create will no longer be systematically reviewed by other editors, it is important that you maintain the high standard you have achieved so far in all your future creations. Please also try to remember to add relevant WikiProject templates, stub tags, categories, and incoming links to them, if you aren't already in the habit; user scripts such as Rater and StubSorter can help with this. As you have already shown that you have a strong grasp of Wikipedia's core content policies, you might also consider volunteering to become a new page patroller yourself, helping to uphold the project's standards and encourage other good faith article writers.

Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! —TechnoSquirrel69 (talk) 03:24, 7 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hey ThaesOfereode! I was very impressed by the quality of your work while reviewing your contributions for this permission. I only have one suggestion: have you considered applying for free Newspapers.com access through the Wikipedia Library? Among other things, it would allow clippings of newspapers that become openly available to all users, which you can cite instead of search results — I think this is highly beneficial to our readers. Let me know if you have any questions! —TechnoSquirrel69 (talk) 03:29, 7 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi TechnoSquirrel! Thanks for the permissions (sorry it took so long; I didn't realize I was taking up people's time with this!) and the kind words about my work; I really appreciate it! As for Newspapers.com, another editor showed me how to apply for it and I've been using it since I worked on getting Albert Gatschet to GA, though I've used it for about half a dozen articles or so since. It was invaluable when I wrote Sachio Ashida. That said, I think that's the only applied TWL source I have, so if you have any other recommendations, I'm all ears! Best, ThaesOfereode (talk) 16:11, 7 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Don't worry, I highly doubt any new page patroller felt burdened by reading through your articles. :) And I hadn't noticed you'd already gotten TWL access; that sounds good! My only recommendation would be to link the clipping directly (/article/ in the URL, example) which provides open access, rather than the whole page (/image/ in the URL, example) which requires a subscription. —TechnoSquirrel69 (talk) 18:11, 7 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

LF FA mentor

[edit]

Hello. I'm thinking about nominating one of my articles, Tabancale language, for FA status and was wondering if you could serve as a WP:FAMENTOR during the nomination. I've never made a FA nomination before and any advice would be greatly appreciated. If you could look over the article and give a basic review, or help guide me through the FA process, I would be extremely grateful. 🪐Kepler-1229b | talk | contribs🪐 23:05, 11 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Absolutely happy to. I'm flattered that you've asked me, as I have seen you as a north star of sorts in the backrooms of linguistics Wikipedia. Given the relative brevity of the page you're planning on nominating, you should expect a pretty tight microscope; a page with fewer than 600 words is not a common occurrence at FAC. First, ensure as much as you can that there are no other sources on the topic. I reviewed a couple physical books I have on South American linguistics and didn't find anything on Tabancale. This source had a little to say (accessible through the Wikipedia Library), though admittedly covered by your citations anyway (still worth integrating since WP:AGE MATTERS). I can peruse my digital library a little more later too, if you'd like.
Provided there are no more significant sources to discuss, you should expect a deep drilling on source quality, integrity, and unimpeachability; a first FAC must go through a fairly rigorous source review. You can learn a little on the ling side from my first gauntlet here and you can see how a source review may more or less be an ongoing effort here. Word to the wise, if you have offline sources, have those pages readily available and be prepared to provide them to email addresses, as I did as a reviewer here.
You should always include links if no DOI (or hdl, etc.) is specified, which is going to be doubly pounded on if sources are accessible through TWL. Adelaar should be accessible through TWL. Revista Andina appears to have an archive. Steward & Métraux (1948) should be more complete (e.g., publisher, location). Source reviewers also love archiving so if you can do that, do. Retrieval is also mixed; sometimes you note the retrieval date but I'm not seeing a pattern, anyway. Spanish-language sources should have |trans-title= and lang= no matter how obvious you think it should be. Link all authors in your citations, even if they're cited a few times. Also, leaving "Meillet, A" unlinked is something of a sin for a fellow linguist!
In prose, there's not much to criticize, but:
  • "Relación de la tierra de Jaén" [Account of the Land of Jaén] – Italicize the title in the es {{lang}} template and put the translation both in quotes (per WP:SINGLE) and in parentheses (i.e., not brackets, per WP:BRACKET).
  • Gloss Relaciones geográficas de Indias. Also, MOS:LANG.
  • Could probably stand to link things like King of Spain
  • The body is considered fully distinct from the lede so link whatever's in the lede in the body (e.g., Chinchipe River).
  • The language is located → was located
  • were said to be – By whom?
  • with Chicham yumi 'id.' – I would avoid 'id.' at all costs at FAC. Just say something like "meaning the same" or gloss it as 'water' again.
  • Would probably link Maize since a basic American reader would not read this as what we call "corn".
Aside from that, what else is to be said about this? It's a tight, short article. I'm sure others with their different pet peeves will have something else niche to say, but I don't see anything that precludes this from being considered seriously at FAC. Shoot me a ping when you nominate it and I will do whatever I can do as a mentor to help. ThaesOfereode (talk) 02:56, 12 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you so much for the feedback. I am virtually certain there are no other sources on this language. For the source you linked, AFAIK only Campbell's chapter covers the language, and he has in fact published a new version. It doesn't seem to cover anything new, so I'm probably not going to include it. I definitely have copies of offline sources, which I gave to the GA reviewer. The Revista Andina archive only goes as far back as volume 60 in 2023, so I can't link anything there. IABot is also down so I'll have to do that later. Everything else you have recommended I believe I have incorporated. 🪐Kepler-1229b | talk | contribs🪐 03:14, 12 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I think the article is ready to go. I've now cited Campbell's 2024 book in place of the 2012 chapter. I'll notify you when the nom is complete. 🪐Kepler-1229b | talk | contribs🪐 04:45, 12 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Well, next?

[edit]

I took a look at The State of Siege yesterday. It's a pity that I cannot do a full review for your current FAC. Anyways, I remember coming across your articles when you brought The Path to Rome at FAC.

Any chances of a Belloc return in the near future? I hope you're doing fine. Best, MSincccc (talk) 13:53, 16 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Not bad at all. I hope you are well too. Thanks always for your copyedits; they never go unappreciated on my watchlist! No worries about the FAC too. I will doubtless be there again soon. As for Belloc, I can happily confirm that I will be bringing him back to FAC in the near future. I am planning to bring Magic: A Fantastic Comedy there soon (where Belloc is both an initial supporter and later harsh critic) and eventually bring Hilaire Belloc and G. K. Chesterton there as well. If you're interested in my future Bellocian efforts, you can take a look at my little project to get him to Good Topic status. Cheers, ThaesOfereode (talk) 14:33, 16 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your response. That's ambitious, but then that's what one should be to be successful anywhere.
It's slightly more difficult here because of school, lessons and other commitments, but then I will make sure to take a look at those articles (and Proto-Siouan) when I have the time. A TFA nomination's been open for some time. Good luck with your endeavours. MSincccc (talk) 15:04, 16 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Note on TWL access template

[edit]

Hi ThaesOfereode, I just saw Tabancale language got promoted to FAC and when I looked at the recent history and comments on the FAC, I noticed there was a comment about the Wikipedia Library access template being visible to logged out users. Just putting {{TWLaccess}} on a page doesn't actually do anything - instead, you're supposed to put the doi/jstor/url as the template parameter after the citation, like: {{twlac|doi=10.1007/978-3-031-42102-0}}, which produces:

Which does not render for logged-out/non-confirmed users, while providing a quick clickable link for those that are. I use it pretty extensively in a lot of my articles (see also: Contracting Colonialism#References) and think it's pretty great, so I just wanted to give you a heads up about usage. Thanks for your work reviewing FACs. ScalarFactor (talk) 04:23, 19 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

I've already taken a look at Magic, and I will be happy to leave comments at its PR and FAC. Good luck with your future endeavours. Best, MSincccc (talk) 16:59, 30 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

DYK for The State of Siege

[edit]

On 1 November 2026, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article The State of Siege, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Albert Camus and Jean-Louis Barrault settled on the title of The State of Siege by taking turns completing the phrase "Get dressed, darling, we're going to see [...]"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/The State of Siege. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (The State of Siege), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to nominate it.
