This is calendar showing scheduled events on English Wikipedia, and some major events elsewhere in the Wikimedia community that can be expected to have reasonably engagement by EnWiki editors.
Extended editing efforts, such as year-long themes or competitions that happen every month, are not listed.
"Special events" are wiki-wide events that cannot be classified as edit-a-thons, backlog drives nor elections.
Backlog drives go under "Backlog drives" regardless of whether a WikiProject is organizing it, as they are effectively wiki-wide and it is useful to bunch them together.
"Elections" is only for EnWiki ones; Wikimedia ones go under "Wikimedia".
Events run wholly within WikiProjects go under "Project events".
"Misc" is, as one might expect, for anything that is useful to have on the calendar but which does not fit into other categories.
"Wikimedia" is for major events on other Wikimedia projects that can be reasonably expected to be relevant to EnWiki editors.
↑The end-date is an estimate based on last election; how fast the scruts are determines when the election officially ends.
↑The full title of the edit-a-thon is 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence (as in the real-life event that is the theme of the edit-a-thon).
