But for AI infrastructure, that logic breaks. I sat down with Ganesha Rasiah from Celestica, a company that sits at the intersection of every major hardware decision in enterprise AI. What they're seeing on the ground is different from what most boards talk about. Their clients aren't asking for "European alternatives" in the abstract. They're asking: "Who controls my hardware? Where does it come from? Can I count on it when geopolitical realities shift?" Especially in AI. The conversation with Celestica was direct: full-stack ownership matters. Not because it's ideologically pure. Because control over every layer, software AND hardware, becomes your only lever when the market changes. This isn't theory for us at Scaleway. We made that bet years ago: own the datacenters, design the hardware, build the software. It's meant making harder choices, but it's given us the independence Celestica's clients are now demanding. You need to know who designed your hardware. You need to know the supply chain. You need to have options — not just one manufacturer, not just one geography. That's what Celestica sees changing right now. Their enterprise clients aren't waiting for European policy. They're making strategic procurement decisions based on risk. We gathered David Morquin (Head of AI & Data Governance, CHU Montpellier) with Paul Rinaudo (Founder of ADLIN Science) to discuss Alliance Santé IA, transforming fragmented hospital data into actionable AI assets. A regret: Anne FERRER-VILLENEUVE (CEO, CHU Montpellier) couldn't make it. But her vision and her teams are at the heart of this remarkable initiative. The problem is simple: hospitals have vast data, but it's trapped in silos. The solution requires not just technology, but a shift: data must be exploitable, shareable, and governed, while staying sovereign. That's what Scaleway provides: cloud infrastructure that works for a small hospital and scales to a major CHU. Secure. Compliant. Controlled. But here's what mattered: this model isn't just for healthcare. If you can do this in a hospital (the most regulated, most demanding use case) you can do it in finance, defense, energy, critical infrastructure. Anywhere data is sensitive and sovereignty matters. The hospital becomes the stress test for every industry where data is critical. That's why I forgot my pitch. I spoke to Poland's ministers Dariusz Standerski, PhD and Konrad Gołota and to our ambassador Clara Chappaz about digital infrastructure not as a future ambition, but as something Scaleway has been building in Warsaw for seven years. Together with Play, our sister company, we have created something real: Polish datacenters. Polish AI training infrastructure and computing. Polish control over where data sits and travels. Polish companies rely on this infrastructure daily. Polish and French teams operate and secure it. We own the full stack. The hardware challenge is real. EUCS would help us move faster. But we're not waiting for Brussels. Albane Bruyas a partagé ceciThe most common thing I hear from enterprise technology leaders about cloud strategy is that they chose their primary provider because it felt like the safe option. I understand that logic. I also think it deserves more scrutiny than it usually gets. In my recent conversation with TechArena.ai 's Allyson Klein and Solidigm's Ace Stryker on the Data Insights podcast, I made the case for something I believe the industry needs to take seriously: your cloud provider is a strategic supplier, and most organizations are treating it like a commodity purchase. I came to this industry from industrial procurement, where the rule is simple. You never operate with a single source for a critical input. Not because your primary supplier is unreliable, but because dependency without alternatives is a structural vulnerability. That logic does not change because the product is digital. When organizations anchor entirely to one hyperscaler, they lose leverage on pricing, lose options when terms shift, and lose control over where their data sits if a foreign government makes a request. Most have not faced those scenarios yet. That does not mean they are not exposed. At Scaleway, full-stack ownership is our answer to that problem. We own our software, hardware, network transit, and pricing structure. Our participation in the Open Compute Project Foundation lets us source components across multiple vendors, which keeps pricing competitive and capacity flexible. The result is a level of transparency and operational control that third-party-dependent providers cannot offer in the same way. ➡️ My advice to enterprise buyers is straightforward: test an alternative before you need one. Last week, I had the privilege of speaking at the #OCPSummit on how open design is reshaping cloud infrastructure — and why it's not just a technical choice, but a strategic one. Three things stood out: First, sovereignty through control. Open design isn't charity. It's strategic autonomy. When you build on open standards, you control your supply chain, your roadmap, your dependencies. You're not waiting for a vendor's next-gen release to unlock efficiency gains. You're designing what you need, when you need it. Second, the power of collaboration. Every cloud provider in that room is targeting the same goal: faster deployment, lower costs, less waste, more control. The question is whether we solve them alone — or together. At Scaleway, we chose together. MHS, ORv3, open standards — not because it's trendy, but because it works. Design once, deploy many. That's what open infrastructure delivers. Third, the lifecycle advantage people underestimate. Proprietary systems force obsolescence by design. Chassis, fans, drive sleds — non-revenue components that should be reusable become e-waste because the vendor moved on. OCP breaks that cycle. You source passive components long after commercial life ends. You extend lifecycles. You reduce waste. And for Scaleway, that's not just ESG — it's operational resilience. I figured I'd learn a bit about marketing, tick a box on my degree, and move on. Instead, I ended up learning an absurd amount about tech products, about how to actually get things done under pressure, and about myself along the way. Since then, I've gotten to run so many cool events some planned for months like ai-PULSE and VivaTech, some put together in about 24 hours flat, and I've discovered every possible facet of this job in the process. I went from being genuinely unsure I'd made the right choice to loving a career I never would've guessed would fit me this well. Along the way I picked up more than I can list here: how to explain the difference between object storage and a GPU instance without blinking, how to make a webinar on product updates or data warehousing actually sound exciting, how to stay calm when literally nothing is going to plan, how to ask for help without feeling like I was failing, and how to actually enjoy the chaos instead of just surviving it. Thank you for trusting me with real events, real deadlines, and real chaos. Thank you for the feedback, the last-minute saves, and for laughing at my antics instead of judging them. Thank you for answering my questions even when they were probably obvious, and for treating me like part of the team from day one rather than "just the apprentice." I've learned more here than I ever expected, and most of it from you. This isn't really goodbye I'm hoping it's more of a "see you at the next chapter." But just in case: it's been a genuine privilege building things with this team, and I'm walking away far more confident (and far more tech-literate) than when I walked in. Thank you. À quelques jours de la pause estivale, nous avons pris le temps d’échanger et de leur présenter le Programme Marguerite, qui les aide financièrement à optimiser leurs approvisionnements et leurs livraisons avec des solutions plus simples et plus propres.
