Jesse Ghansah reacted on thisJesse Ghansah reacted on thisLFG ⚡🧢⚡ 2 years ago, rali_cap was just a question: can a global community of fintech operators, collaborating on deal sourcing, DD and founder support, out-perform the traditional venture model? As I watched from the inside as Facebook struggled to scale financial services in emerging markets, I saw in parallel a new generation of local in-market fintech founders, growing up with the problems they set out to solve, increasingly accessing a globalized world of tech, talent and capital. And we set out to power their visions with hands-on, strategic, globally-connected early-stage capital. Huge thanks to those first founders who allowed us to join their journeys (Abdul Hassan, Kiaan Pillay, Emmanuel Gbolade, Uri Tintore). None of this would be possible without the early support, morale boosts, and early COVID era walk and talks with so many folks from across the global fintech ecosystem Daniel Shi, Anay Shah, Dan Kahn, Christine C., Mark Heynen, Mauricio Cordero, Ali Amin Sattar, Carl Tremblay, Jenny Johnston, Nik Talreja, Nik Milanović, Sheel Mohnot, Rob Eloff, Steven Grin; the funds backing this next chapter (Ted Breyer, Jay R., David Mort, Mario Ruiz, Jeremy Jonker, Jay Dahal, Christina Melas-Kyriazi, Steve McLaughlin, Eric Klose and many we can't yet announce); and our always collaborative, curious and downright awesome community of LPs and venture partners. Lastly, the biggest thanks goes to Kyane Kassiri for joining our leadership team this year and helping make this dream job a reality. Jesse Ghansah liked thisJesse Ghansah liked thisHello, I’m Adaora👋 I work in the Legal Department, providing legal advisory support to various business units. I also provide Company Secretarial support to the FBNQuest Merchant Bank Group. Every morning, I talk to God and check on my loved ones. Then, I get to work. I prefer working from Home because I don’t need to worry about Lagos traffic🚦 or outfits to wear to the Office. Most importantly, I am able to get more work done at Home. To destress, I crotchet 🧶. I know it’s a bit random, but knitting is therapeutic for me. I also watch comedy skits to lighten my mood. After work hours, I watch a show and exercise sometimes. I am currently watching Inventing Anna and the new season of Queen of the South on Netflix. My colleagues don’t know this, but I can’t ride a bicycle to save my life. They also don’t know that I enjoy dancing. I was even in the atilogwu dance group in High School for 3 years 🤣. It is important to note that FBNQuest recognizes and rewards excellent performance🌟. It is also an organization that prioritises the welfare of its people. My favourite part of working here is the people, particularly my team, and the flexibility of working from Home. To #BreakTheBias in the workplace, I ensure that I don't react to people based on their gender. I accord my colleagues an equal level of respect in my interactions with them. - Adaora Onoh Legal Department #PeopleofFBNQuest #PoweredByPeople #FBNQuestWomensInteractiveNetwork #IWD2022

💥 Our Partech 2025 AFRICA TECH VC REPORT is live! 💥 🚀🚀 Africa Tech VC resumed growth on its own terms 🚀🚀 No AI hype. No speculative boom. Just execution, unit economics, and real businesses reaching scale. What changed in 2025? ➡️ Funding is back at US$4.1B (+25% YoY) - without a spike in deal activity ➡️ Debt went mainstream: now 41% of all capital (yes, that’s new !) ➡️ Equity normalized, tickets got larger, not louder ➡️ Capital refocused in the top 4 hubs, with Kenya leading total volume (equity+debt) while South Africa reclaimed leadership in equity ➡️ Fintech stayed the pillar, but Cleantech, Healthtech & Enterprise stepped up, marking the strongest diversification of funded sectors in years ➡️ Fewer outliers, with more real companies reaching scale 📊 We’ve been tracking this ecosystem for 10 years now, not to tell a finished story, but to ground the conversation in data and long-term perspective. And one thing is clear to me: Africa is moving forward, disciplined, and on its own cycle. 👉 Full 2025 report out now and available just here, enjoy ! https://lnkd.in/dWKZpZPA Africa is On ! Reminder on our methodology (unchanged): we do report on EQUITY & DEBT fundraising for African tech startups for deals above $200K. Everything else is EXCLUDED from the report, in particular all M&A transactions, Secondary transactions, Securitized bonds, Grants, PIPEs, ICOs, etc. Thank you team! 💪 Marie Benrubi, Bakr Bizri, Sabrine Chahrour, Tito Cookey-Gam, Tidjane Deme, Lewam Kefela, Matthieu Marchand, Ogugua Osakwe-Adegbite, Isabelle Tresson. #AfricaIsOn #PartechAfrica #PartechAfricaReport #AfricaTech #VCfunding

3,000 people showed up on launch day. Two hours later, our accounts were suspended. Part 2 of Building a Startup with a Creative Founder in Africa. The founder has millions of monthly impressions across multiple social media platforms, and a creative monetization problem he had experienced first hand. On pilot day, we got ~3,000 signups. Not bad, but nowhere near what we'd modelled. And then everything started going wrong. - Technical issues pushed go-live back by 2 hours. - The delay triggered mass reporting, and our accounts were suspended for 24 hours. - The same audience we were counting on started calling us names in the comments and DMs. Eventually, we got the platform live and the subscriptions started coming in. The same people who had been dragging us all day had subscribed and wanted more: "When's the next content coming ?" That whiplash taught us something I think a lot of creative-economy founders learn the hard way: 1. People can be loyal to the content without being loyal to the creator or the product. 2. Millions of impressions don't automatically translate into paying & returning users. 3. People follow and love what a creator makes, not the creator And being emotionally attached to someone's content isn't the same as being loyal to the creator or the business behind it. So the harder, more interesting question became: How do you turn creative talent into a scalable business? That's one of the most underrated opportunities in Africa's creative economy right now: building the bridge between impressions and monetization. That's exactly the gap we're building for. Still building. Still learning. Startup Minds

Uber leaving Nigeria is a reminder that Africa isn’t just another market to copy and paste into. International companies can be incredibly organized and successful in the markets they were built for, but Africa has its own economic realities, infrastructure, consumer behavior, and way of doing things. We need to build for those realities from day one. That’s one of the principles behind naviaride . We’re building around how people actually commute in African cities, not simply importing a ride-hailing model, but creating a carpooling system that helps people going the same way share the cost of getting there. The opportunity isn’t just to bring global ideas to Africa. It’s to build African solutions that can eventually scale globally. 🌍

Our goal over the past several days has been to make the Avalanche Build Games campaign more accessible to Nigerian builders. I know you might ask, what is Build Games? Build Games isn’t just another hackathon. It’s a six-week, execution-driven builder competition designed to help developers ship real products, go on-chain, and grow into long-term founders within the Avalanche ecosystem. With a $1M prize pool, structured milestones, top-notch hands-on mentorship, and a clear post-program growth path, this initiative is built for builders who want to move beyond ideas into real-world impact. Our focus in Nigeria is simple: meet builders where they are. That means going beyond online promotion and into universities, local developer hubs, and emerging communities outside the usual tech bubbles. We’re engaging solo developers, small teams of developers and computer science students to expose these builders to real on-chain opportunities. Nigeria has no shortage of talent, but what’s often missing is access, structure, and the right pipeline for growth at the right time. Build Games provides that structure, and our goal is to make sure Nigerian builders don’t miss the opportunity to participate in a global competition designed for serious execution and long-term growth. If you’re a builder in Nigeria with the hunger to ship, compete, and build something real, this is your moment. Avalanche is opening the door with Build Games and we’re making sure Africa’s builders walk through it. #Avalanche #BuildGames #Blockchain #Hackathons #Education #Africa #developers #Ai

I recently had the privilege of learning from Chris Tottman, General Partner at Notion Capital, during an Included VC Africa masterclass. Being a builder who successfully exited his own business before founding Notion, the session was a masterclass in the "Meritocracy of Building." Here are my top three takeaways for founders and emerging managers: 1. The First Call Advantage in Emerging Markets: One of the most powerful strategies discussed was leveraging the nature of emerging markets. If you are positioned in a market that is currently fragmented but destined to be globally connected, you are building a moat. Position yourself at the frontier now. By the time global capital flows into these markets, you want to be the person they must call first because you hold the data and the network. 2. Hunting for the "One-in-a-Generation" Founder: At the pre-seed stage, metrics are sparse. Chris emphasized that the ultimate metric is the founder themselves. - The Litmus Test: Is this a "one-in-a-generation" founder? - The best founders aren't obsessed with their solution; they are obsessed with solving people’s problems. - Investor IQ: Can the founder articulate complex deal dynamics and, more importantly, get us into the rooms that are notoriously hard to access? 3. HealthTech 2.0: The Infrastructure Play Chris’s point on customer development resonated deeply with my focus on the African HealthTech landscape. We are moving past the era of simple B2C apps into "HealthTech 2.0," a phase defined by B2B infrastructure and data moats. Building in this space is the ultimate meritocracy: those who solve the deepest system frictions will win. A huge thank you to Chris Tottman for sharing his journey from founder to GP! As I continue to bridge the gap between healthcare and venture capital, these frameworks would be invaluable for identifying the next one-in-a-generation healthtech founder. #VentureCapital #IncludedVCAfrica #EmergingMarkets #HealthTech #NotionCapital #AfricaTech #Innovation

Nigeria just dropped three big tech bills at once: AI, fintech, EV. And honestly, it’s giving “group project done at 3am” energy. On paper, it’s bold. You know; regulate AI, streamline fintech, build a local EV industry. In practice? Founders are squinting, lawyers are panicking, and everyone’s asking the same question: Is this fixing the future… or creating three new bosses nobody asked for? An AI council with sweeping powers, a fintech super-regulator that overlaps with the CBN, and an EV bill with NGN 500 M fines. All landing at the same time. Full breakdown via WeeTracker — what’s smart, what’s messy, and what might choke the sectors Nigeria says it wants to grow 👇 🔗 https://lnkd.in/d-YVenGt

There is a product side to Africa’s largest ever IPO that happened yesterday. Most Gen Z’s and millennials who got some of the shares did through Fintech apps instead of the traditional stock broker route and I think this scaled access to retail investors like you and me, truly making it the IPO of the people. The execution speed also shows why Fintech is so ahead of other tech sectors in Africa for now. Which app did you use to invest in the Dangote refinery shares and which Fintech startup impressed you the most with their execution? Once again shoutout to every PM, Product designer and engineer who pulled this off for their various teams in little to no time. Let me know in the comment section which fintech app impressed you the most and let’s give a shoutout to any members of the product team you know … Harry not Henry
