Hosting ODS at the Linux Foundation for Ai? #3536

Description

@marvin-hansen

I propose to host this project in the Linux Foundation for AI. Because this would give an enormous amount of visibility and credibility to this project, and the foundation is generally very open for everything that caters to privacy, self-hosting, and true ownership. Furthermore, the vendor-neutral governance framework of the Linux Foundation establishes the stage for the long-term sustainability of the project.

There is legal protection implied by hosting the project with the Linux Foundation. For example, when HashiCorp were going berserk with Terraform, the OpenTofu fork was admitted into the Linux Foundation and shortly thereafter, all legal threats against the core team from the HashiCorp were ending because not even HashiCorp wanted to pick a public fight with the home of the Linux Kernel.

In general, the Linux Foundation endorses company-sponsored open source to ensure the sustainability of the project in the sense that maintainers are getting paid and the project continues. For small to medium companies, this is a free advertising opportunity because the foundation generally tries to get new projects to present at some of its conferences.

The LF has a dedicated page for information about entering the foundation.

I would welcome an opem discussion around the idea of hosting ODS with the Linux Foundation for AI.
