Claude 4 does not accept any messages or requests (I am using Github Copilot Pro +), each request results in being rate limited.

I am a verified student and currently enrolled in the GitHub Student Developer Pack. According to the benefits, GitHub Copilot should be available to me for free under the student license. However, my account shows that I have an active Copilot Pro subscription, and I am facing repeated rate-limit errors such as:

"Sorry, you have been rate-limited. Please wait a moment before trying again."

I have not subscribed to Copilot Pro manually, and I believe this may be a misconfiguration on GitHub’s end. I am using Copilot strictly for academic and personal learning purposes, on a single device.

I kindly request you to:

1. Cancel any unintended Copilot Pro subscription on my account.
2. Enable GitHub Copilot under the Student Developer Pack benefits.
3. Resolve the rate-limiting issue affecting my usage.

Please let me know if you require any additional information. I look forward to your help in resolving this issue quickly, as it’s impacting my studies.

Copilot has been acting up when I tried using it around 8 hours ago on my side.

But last I checked, copilot does not have the claude model yet, are you using an API?

No. You need to enable claude 4 model in Github settings, it was just released today.

Ohh yeah! I am only seeing that now on reddit, try switching to Ask Mode: Temporarily using ask mode can help bypass the agent mode limits (As someone suggested on reddit)

i hit the agent limits form 0 usage this day to reaching the limit on claude 4 before it even finished implementing the simple fix

Switching to ask mode temporarily gave me the slightest glimmer of hope and then the Sorry / rate limit message again. Claude Sonnet 4 has successfully created two whole files with code for me since its release yesterday. And I have a paid account. This is embarrassing for both GitHub and Claude.

When it DOES work for a minute or two it seems like it really knows what it’s doing. But I’ve gotten the rate limit error even when using ask mode. Really hope they figure this out.

If it works, it works very well, but the rate limits appear after view chats. Inacceptable

I've had several times is VSCode that it's midway and after it's done several changes and suddenly i get these rate limits.
At least ensure it completes its current task and not just break code and quit.

Yep! Same. Stops right in the middle of coding to display the rate limit message. Then there’s stuff to go back and fix, and it stops in the middle of fixing. I haven’t tried switching back to 3.7 Sonnet to continue working but am considering trying it to at least keep moving forward…

Claude 4 in Copilot Agent Mode is not responding to any messages. Every prompt results in a rate-limit error:
"Sorry, you have been rate-limited. Please wait a moment before trying again."

I’m on GitHub Copilot Pro+ and have already tried restarting VS Code and reinstalling the extension, but the issue persists. Please look into this.

This happened to me on previous Claude models too in Agent mode. I used it as soon as it got released, so it may be an issue only during the first days? I don't know for sure because I simply stopped using it in Agent mode to prevent getting rate limited again for the entire day.

If rate limits were transparent this would be much easier to deal with.

I got same isssue here!!! then Copilot changed to use GPT-4.1 which I don't like

hmm, I found out that there are some settings which made copilot stop request. We can try to setting to NO in "Stop usage" section
