How to turn off the Agent? I only wish to use the chat feature. It is spamming my Repository and my Email.

Hey! I ran into this before too here’s what worked for me:

Try to Disable Copilot Agent / Workspace:

Go to your repo → Settings → Copilot (sometimes it’s under Code and automation → Copilot).

Look for anything like “Copilot for Pull Requests” or “Copilot Workspace” and turn it off.

This stops Copilot from automatically opening pull requests.

Keep just the chat:

The chat feature in your IDE (VS Code, JetBrains, etc.) won’t create PRs by itself, so you can keep using that normally.

And if your email is getting flooded with notifications:

Go to Settings → Notifications on GitHub, and either unwatch the repo or customize what you get emails for.

If you can’t find the toggle, it might be controlled by your org admin or be in beta, so you’d need to ask them.

None of that reply was relevant or accurate. I still need help with this. I use the copilot chat here at github.com not in my ide. This only started 2 days ago. This is due to new Github features.

ok so in github homepage in the top right click on ur pfp then choose setting then hover to copilot then features then disable copilot coding agent

I see it there.

MCP servers on GitHub.com both say enabled at the right but not as an option you can dissable unlike all the options above them. further it says "Delegate tasks to Copilot coding agent in repositories where it is enabled " but in the repository this is not an option i can dissable contrary to this message.

Hey! So here’s what’s really going on:

Unfortunately, Copilot coding agent and MCP servers on GitHub.com are currently global account-level beta features controlled by GitHub.
Right now, they don’t show a disable toggle in individual repos or in your settings page — it’s missing by design for normal users.

What you can do:

Step 1 – Check repository-level GitHub Actions or Apps

Go to your repository on GitHub.
Click on Settings → Actions → General → scroll down to Policies.
Check if there’s a Copilot-related workflow or GitHub App installed.
If yes, you can disable it or remove it.

Step 2 – Check installed integrations
Still in Settings → go to Integrations → Installed GitHub Apps.
Look for any app named GitHub Copilot, Copilot Chat, or Copilot Agent.
If it’s installed for the repo, click on it → Configure → remove the repository or uninstall.

Step 3 – Repo-level settings
Some features are only available if your org or repo owner enabled the Copilot coding agent preview:
Go to Settings → Copilot (if available).
Disable or turn off the “Enable coding agent” toggle.

If this section isn’t visible, it means:

The coding agent isn’t actually enabled for your repo.

Or it’s managed at the organization level by an admin — you’d need to ask them to turn it off.

Go to https://github.com/settings/copilot/features and double-check if there is any “Disable” button or toggle that appeared (sometimes shows up if your account was recently enrolled).

If it still shows only “Enabled” with no way to turn it off:
→ You need to contact GitHub Support or open an issue in github/feedback and ask them to remove you from the Copilot coding agent / MCP beta.

Meanwhile, you can reduce noise by:

Going to Settings → Notifications → Custom and unwatching the repos or disabling PR notifications.

Temporarily disabling Copilot completely under Settings → Copilot → General → Disable Copilot (though this disables chat too).

Sadly, at the moment users can’t fully turn off the Copilot Agent just by clicking a toggle — it has to be removed on GitHub’s side.

I know it’s frustrating; hope this helps explain why and how to fix it!

I found in Github settings Copilot a dropdown for what Repositories it may access and turned it to none. Thanks again!
