For several days I can't star any repo to any list.

I can favorite repo outside of the list, but

1. Favorites list quick search by name doesn't work
2. Clicking checkbox near favorites list name doesn't add repo to that list.

Tried both Firefox and Chrome. Adblock disabled. Tried to clear cookies and log in again.

This looks like a recent GitHub bug with Lists. Try these steps — they worked for me:

Go to Settings → Accounts → Sessions and click “Sign out everywhere.”

Clear site data for github.com (in Chrome: padlock → Site settings → Clear data).

Log back in, then open an incognito window and try starring a repo to a list again.

If it still fails, open DevTools → Console and check for a 403 or 422 error when adding to a list — that confirms it’s a backend issue. In that case, report it at GitHub Support
with the error details.

The bug seems to affect new sessions since late October, so it should get patched soon.

Same here, fresh session on a different browser/incognito window doesn't work anyway.

Go to Settings → Account → Security → Active Sessions and sign out from all sessions except the current one.

Clear browser cache specifically for GitHub (not full browser data).

Try opening GitHub in an incognito/private window and attempt adding a repo to a list again.

If it still doesn’t work, open Developer Tools → Console and check if there are any errors.
If errors appear, screenshot them and share them here — that will help identify the issue.

I followed your advice, for which I'm grateful, and did discover a few error and one warning, I think, in DevTools console. The issue is still occurring, but I hope it helps, and tyvm for hard work and help! 😁

I'm having the exact same issue. I can create new lists and star individual repositories as non-listed stars, but if I attempt to add a repo to a list, it resets to unstarred/listed on page refresh. More specifically, after two or three days of experimenting, I've found that, for me, at least:

• Starred repositories consistently and without exception disappear from my lists after refreshing the page.
• The issue occurs across all repositories and lists.
• I can star a repository, but can not add one to any of the lists.
• If I create a list using the drop-down button next to the Star button, I'm able to add a repository to the newly-created list, but am unable to add any new repositories to the new list.

If it's relevant, I'm using a personal, free account at the moment, on the latest version of GitHub.com. Things I have tried include the following:

1. Logging out of my account, then logging back in.
2. Clearing my browser cache and even cookies, as well as disabling all browser extensions.
3. Attempting to list repositories on a different browser.
4. Attempting the same from an alternate account.
5. I've even removed all repositories from several lists, deleted the lists and tried re-listing repositories.

So far, none of the above seems to work. I can provide any additional necessary information if necessary. It's not a life-shattering, tragedy of great proportion, but it does interfere with my concentration and daily workflows. That said, I'm not complaining. I know it's still a Preview feature in the first place. But it is somewhat disconcerting, as I've gotten used to the feature and love it, in general. This is the first issue I've had with stars or lists. Thanks for your hard work to both my fellow community members and developers, and definitely to GitHub support. =P

+1, same issue here. However, I'm also unable to create new lists from the "Starred" dropdown menu.

Creating new lists from my profile works fine, but adding repos to it via the checkboxes in the "Starred" dropdown menu does nothing. This is on a clean, freshly-cleared install of Chrome on a new login session, no extensions.

This looks like a GitHub bug with the Lists feature. I’ve tried clearing browser cache, logging out everywhere, incognito mode, and different browsers—but still can’t add repositories to Lists, only star them directly. Creating a new List sometimes works for one item, but further additions fail or disappear after refresh.

If you haven’t already, try these steps:

1. Log out everywhere (Settings → Account → Security → Active Sessions).
2. Clear site data specifically for github.com.
3. Use incognito/private mode to test.
4. Open Developer Tools (F12) → Console, and check for any errors when adding to a List (e.g. 403 or 422 codes).

It seems to be a backend issue, not on our end. The more people report it, the sooner it should get fixed!.

Same here. I found this out on the 7th of this month.

And I tried the following steps:

Note: Any starred repository cannot be added to or removed from an existing list(Only works when the list is created for the first time)

When I click/uncheck a checkbox in the generated starred list, it looks like nothing is being sent to the server. I checked the Network tab in Chrome DevTools, but I didn’t see any requests or actions being triggered.

Sign out from all places:
Go to Settings > Accounts > Sessions on GitHub. Click "Sign out everywhere".
Click the padlock icon in the address bar → Site settings → Clear data.
Log in again
Test in an incognito/private browsing window

Open Developer Tools (F12 or right-click → Inspect) → Go to the Console tab.
Try adding to a list again and look for errors like 403 or 422.

→ If you see them, it's a GitHub server issue.
→ Report it to GitHub Support and share the error details.

Pasos que suelen funcionar pero que en este caso no están dando resultado:

Limpiar caché y cookies del navegador

Usar modo incógnito o diferentes navegadores

Cerrar sesión en todas las sesiones activas

Lo que sí funciona (como solución temporal):

Puedes seguir añadiendo estrellas generales a los repositorios (sin listas específicas)

La opción "Crear lista" a veces permite añadir un primer repositorio, pero no siguientes

Diagnóstico:
Al revisar la consola del navegador (F12), se observa que no se generan solicitudes de red cuando se marcan/desmarcan las casillas de las listas, lo que confirma que es un problema del lado de GitHub.

Recomendación:
Reporta el caso directamente al soporte de GitHub mediante https://support.github.com/contact mencionando que afecta a la funcionalidad de listas. Cuantos más usuarios reporten el mismo incidente, más prioridad tendrá para su solución.

Mientras tanto, considera usar estrellas tradicionales o watch como alternativa temporal.

I’ve tried many methods and it still doesn’t work. I’m pretty sure this is a GitHub issue or a GitHub bug, and only time will fix it (I mean waiting for them to resolve the problem).

Only workaround at the moment is just using the Github mobile app. Don't waste your time trying to do the whole "logout everywhere and clear site data" thing, it won't work because it isn't a problem on your end.
