Gateshead’s community libraries rely heavily on volunteers — many of them older adults or learners who use screen readers, magnifiers, or high-contrast modes. When the GitHub platform isn’t fully accessible, it creates a digital gap and limits their ability to participate in coding clubs, digital learning sessions, and project collaboration.
We’ve been trying to introduce young people to open-source culture too… but only if the tools don’t fight them first!
