Visual Studio Code Editor Search Broken by Copilot

Open text file with Visual Studio Code version 1.106.2, control-F, search box opens and I start to type which causes copilot upgrade to window to open.
Can not search text file for text because of copilot.
Uninstalled all copilot extensions, restarted Visual Studio Code, still the same problem.
Re-installed Visual Studio Code, still the same problem.
How to fix?

Try to remove every line containing "copilot" from settings.json and restarting VS Code.

Windows 11 doesn't seem to offer running vscode as administrator

Do not click from the taskbar. Search for it using the search bar. Right-click, then run as administrator.

Find code.exe and ran as administrator but still can not remove occurrences of "copilot"

open the correct file: settings.json.

Press Ctrl+P and type Preferences: Open User Settings (JSON).

This should open settings.json.

How do I "open the correct file: settings.json" , I can not find it

Go to File

Select Preferences

Then Settings

and clic here

The first option worked. I was able to enter code and then Ctrl+F, type in the search box which found what I typed
No copilot upgrade :)

Good news: the bug is only in your normal profile.

Do this to reset your profile for good:
Close all VS Code windows.
In File Explorer, go to:
C:\Users<YOUR_NAME>\AppData\Roaming\Code
Rename the folder User → for example: User_backup.

Start VS Code normally (just code.exe or via the Start menu).

VS Code will recreate a completely new User profile.
Try again: open a file → Ctrl+F → type → it should no longer open the Copilot upgrade window.

After that, you can re-set your theme and other preferences manually.

That worked. Was able to open file with "Open with", vs code and Ctrl+F → type → which found what I typed
