Problem

Since approximately June 17/18, 2026, the GitHub Home Feed (both "For you" and "Following" tabs) and Explore page have stopped showing new content. The feed remains static, displaying the same old recommendations and starred-repo activity.

Affected platforms:

• Web (browser) — both regular and incognito mode
• GitHub Mobile App (iOS/Android)
• CLI (gh api) — API works fine, only UI feed is affected

Account

• Login: numuly
• Created: 2023-06-28
• Public repos: 0 (primarily stars/follows activity)
• Starred repos: ~80+
• Following: 5 users

Steps already taken (none resolved)

1. Incognito/private browsing
2. Different networks (Wi-Fi → mobile hotspot)
3. Reinstalled GitHub Mobile App, re-logged in
4. Followed more repos to increase signal
5. Checked https://www.githubstatus.com — no relevant incidents
6. Tested GitHub API via gh api — API responses are normal

Additional context

Everything else (Issues, PRs, notifications, repo pages) works normally. The issue appears to be account-level (algorithm/feed service), not network or authentication related.

Expected: Restore normal Home Feed / Explore content refresh for account numuly.

Thanks for the detailed analysis. I ran the tests you suggested via CLI:

Test 1 — Frozen vs stale:
The feed is completely frozen, not merely stale. The private Atom feed (numuly.private.atom) has its updated timestamp stuck at 2026-06-17T16:06:02-07:00. All 30 entries are from June 16–17 and none have changed in 6 days. Timestamps are literally identical on every refresh.

Test 2 — For you vs Following:

• For you (private.atom): Frozen at June 17. All entries are release events only; star/follow/watch events are absent.
• Following: The users I follow aren't very active, but one (lxgw) pushed on June 19 — this should have shown up.
• Actor feed (private.actor.atom): Works fine — shows my own star events in real time (updated to June 23).

Test 3 — New starred repo:
I starred two highly active repositories (microsoft/vscode, torvalds/linux). The actor feed recorded both immediately. But the For You feed did not update — still showing the same June 17 content. This confirms new signals are being received but not processed into feed recommendations.

Test 4 — Second account:
I don't have a second account to test from the same device, but the API-based testing clearly shows this is an account-level feed generation pipeline issue, not client-side.

Additional observation: the feed contains only release events — no star, push, fork, issue, or PR events. A healthy feed should mix event types. This suggests either the event aggregation layer is filtering out non-release events, or the personalization pipeline is not running for this account.

Quick data point: AntonPalmqvist and I (numuly) both have the exact same freeze date — June 17. That's hard to explain as coincidental account-level issues. Looks like a backend regression affecting a batch of accounts since mid-June.

Mine also seems to have frozen the Home Feed on June 17. The last two entries are both repositories I follow that have had multiple Releases since then but nothing is showing in my Feed.

I'm frozen at June 17 as well. I know for sure many of the projects I've starred have had releases since then.

My feed has also been frozen since June 17. I manually checked most of the active repos and their newest releases and activities have not showed up

Same case. The home feed not updating until now.

Same here. My dashboard feed has been completely frozen. But only some updates from people I follow are showing up. No new releases or other activities are updating at all. Hope this gets fixed soon

Update: GitHub Support has confirmed that this is a known issue affecting multiple users. The problem is currently under investigation, and my report has been added to the existing internal tracking ticket. GitHub is actively working on it and will share updates when available.

An Explore or Home Feed failing to update for 5+ days is typically tied to cached data corruption, a corrupted login session, or a temporary account restriction.
