Suggestion: star lists API

I would like to access the lists I create via an API so that I can manage them in GitHub but show them on my personal website too.

I second this. Access to the stars lists and the membership of lists via users/USERNAME/starred is desired. Simply clicking on each starred repo (hundreds) and then adding them to a list is too just too painful.

I wanted to try to build a FastAPI app (hi @tiangolo) that makes it easier to do multi-repo selection to various list with the proper POST message(s) with auth from GitHub OAuth.

Is there an update on this?? I have built out over 20 lists with a TON of repos, i assumed there would be an API for this but none still as far as i can tell. This has to be a prioritized feature.

I was trying to do the same thing as @tiangolo, to pick some of my repositories for my personal website, then I found the lists and it was sad to find out that there's no way to access that information from the API.

I recently downloaded the user-stars extension for github cli which is very useful. Adding star lists to the API would also allow for someone to write a github cli extension for that as well.

I've got this thread subscribed so I can listen out for updates 😊. Even if there was only a readable API to begin with I'd see that as a big plus. Personally not looking to write anything back as I find the UI pretty good, especially the fact that repos automatically star when I add them to a list 👍🏻

I also would really love this. My use case is to curate a list of repos that I can run a script against to get all open PRs.
Currently, the script is something like this but I would LOVE to dynamically pull from a github stars list.

I want to show Stars Lists on my website.

Could we add something like https://api.github.com/users/{username}/lists ?
Or add list name param to Stars API as well, so we can filter it.

I'm the same. Even just adding an array field for each starred repo with the "star lists" the repo inhabits would allow me to retain the categorisation I've built up.

Lists have been available through the GraphQL API as UserList since late 2023 (see changelog).

Unfortunately a user's starredRepositories edges still contain no link back to lists, so you can't easily query the ones that haven't been added to any list yet without doing your own cross-referencing.
