Maybe I'm not able to find it with my limited searching but I'm not able to find an issue or discussion on this. Was there any reach-out to the people who'd be affected?

Sure. He's free to raise a PR here with those changes, and I'd ask the same question there. |

I think it’s not very useful because only a small number of people use the Nix package manager.
