Space

Space as a Warfighting Domain

Space is a critical national security domain with growing relevance to LLNL’s mission area of multi-domain deterrence. Major changes are occurring in systems acquisition, protection and defense, operations, situational awareness, testing and evaluation as the U.S. prepares for space as a warfighting domain.

The Global Security Directorate’s Space Science and Security Program integrates intelligence with core science, technology and engineering capabilities, as well as physics-based modeling and simulation, high performance computing and data science, engineering test capabilities, optics development and astrophysics to respond to and counter emerging security threats in space.
