Backing the best Italian Founders, everywhere. Early-stage fund, Venture Building program, tech event @italiantechweek
Chi siamo
Wholly funded by Exor, we are Italy’s most active non-governmental early-stage fund. With our second fund, we are investing €75M to empower exceptional Italian founders globally. We are sector-agnostic and geography-independent. Beyond venture capital, we run two dedicated ecosystem initiatives. Venture Building is a 5-month intensive program designed to turn ambitious individuals into successful founders. We select participants who don’t yet have a team or an idea and help them find the right co-founders and real problems worth solving. The program runs once a year, from January to June, and requires full-time relocation to Turin. During the first 12 weeks, founders receive a €3,750 grant provided by Fondazione Compagnia di Sanpaolo. After that, we invest €80,000 for 10% equity in the most promising teams. Italian Tech Week is one of Europe’s most influential tech gatherings, bringing together 15,000+ attendees from over 50 countries in 2024. It features exclusive discussions with top tech leaders and visionaries, curated masterclasses led by successful founders and operators, engaging side events across Turin, and a networking platform designed to create meaningful connections.

Every year, there's a special week when I get to return to #Italy and step on a global stage with leading voices in technology, humanity, arts and science. In the months leading up to it, I am reminded that the steepest mountains are moved by small, mighty teams with unreasonable determination and maniacal focus - like the Vento team. This year, I have been thinking deeply about human intuition - our seemingly unexplainable ability to perceive truth before reason can name it. If our senses grasp the outer world, then intuition is the mind’s own sense that detects universal coherence and bridges perception and understanding. Yesterday, Jeff Bezos told John Elkann and a room full of entrepreneurs in #Turin to lean harder on their intuition and curiosity. He shared how much of Amazon’s success was built through wandering, which he called the most primitive expression of curiosity, powered by conviction and long-term thinking. Nowhere is that truer than in healthcare, where progress demands long horizons and the courage and conviction to imagine something better. At Italian Tech Week, I had the privilege of leading many conversations about that future - one defined by human-machine collaboration, deflationary forces, and expanding human capability. Intuitive and Jason Hart showed us how the future of surgery is not human or robot but collective intelligence. Filippo Filicori performed a live robotic cholecystectomy on stage, bridging future and reality. Chris Bischoff and Alexander A. Morgan, MD PhD reassured us that healthcare’s transformation is already underway - and that robotics and AI will be the levers to break the industry’s sublinear scaling dynamics, turning scarcity into abundance. Founders and builders like Andrei Georgescu, Ph.D., Joana Cartocci, Niklas Radner, Matilde Giglio and Danielle Belgrave reminded us that abundance is already being built. A few years ago, it would have been unimaginable to have Jeff Bezos, Kevin Scott, Douglas Leone, Mike Volpi, Sarah Guo, David Solomon and many more incredible speakers sharing a stage in Turin. But yesterday, Ursula von der Leyen vowed to make Europe “worthy of its talent”, and to spare no effort in making it an AI continent. Arthur Mensch, Thomas Wolf, Anton Osika, Marko Bjelonic and countless more entrepreneurs that joined us at ITW25 prove that she's not wrong. It turns out the right question to ask was simply “Why not”. Because, as Diyala D'Aveni said in her opening speech, "waves don’t come with instructions". They simply start with a strong intuition, curiosity, and the courage to follow it. Our CEO John Elkann met with Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, in Turin during the Italian Tech Week. After the meeting, President von der Leyen gave a speech where she underlined Europe’s ambition in #AI and #automotive: “Too often, I hear that Europe is late to the AI race," she said. "But I have seen what Europeans can do when we set our eyes on a goal. We will spare no effort to make Europe an AI continent.” "We are also ready to support the automotive industry, to develop innovative models that are made in Europe, and made for European streets. The automotive industry is a European pride. And now technology can save jobs, and breathe new life into the sector. The future of cars and the cars of the future must be made in Europe."

We’re glad to share that Lupa has raised a $20M Series A round to transform the $350B+ global petcare market. Founded in 2023 by Nicolò Frisiani, Matei Bjola and Raul Lozano Martin, Lupa is building the first AI-powered Operating System for veterinary clinics. By replacing seven legacy tools with one platform, it saves vets 60 minutes per day, doubles ROI on software spend, and delivers a seamless digital experience for pet parents with instant booking, AI-powered chat, and a digital pet-health passport. This $20M round, led by Singular with participation from firstminute capital and angel investors, will fuel international expansion, accelerate product development, and support the launch of the world’s first Veterinary AI Lab. Very proud to have them among our portfolio companies. Upward and onward.

“Now things are real.” That’s how one founder described the Implementation Phase, the final chapter of Vento’s venture building program. No more brainstorming. No more hypotheticals. From that moment on, it’s just about user feedbacks, weekly check-ins, product tweaks, and uncomfortable but necessary conversations with your co-founders. We asked the founders of Season 4 what changed after receiving their first investment ticket. What it means to go from "we're building something" to "we're accountable for something that has to work." - Read the article to find out how they’re preparing for Investor Day and what they learned about themselves, their users, and the companies they’re building. - Applications for Season 5 are now open. If you’re bold enough to build with both vision and willingness to make something game-changing, this might be your moment. Apply here > https://lnkd.in/dBZgjemY

Imagine Vento as a Current. 🌊 Sometimes the ocean feels too vast to cross alone: no map, no direction, no companions on the journey. But those who dare to dive in soon discover they’re not alone: a Current can carry you forward, with the resources, support, and teammates you need to reach places worthy of your talent. Just look at our founders on stage at Italian Tech Week today: ✨ Martina Domenicali, who just closed a €16M Series A with Lexroom.ai ✨ Michela Andreolli, CEO of Arke, who secured €1.7M pre seed from an investor making their very first bet on an Italian startup ✨ Alberta Trombetta, whose JustSolve is rumored to be announcing a very interesting international seed round soon. What do they have in common? Beyond talent, courage, and the will to take risks, they all found their team and built their startups inside Vento’s Venture Building program. And you? How far could you go, and what stage could be yours? Applications for Season 5 are open until October 12. All it takes is one jump. While one of the things we care about the most kicked off today (yes, we are talking about Italian Tech Week) another one came to a close: Season 4 of our Venture Building program. The Investor Day is the final chapter of a journey that began in January. Through the doors of OGR Torino came talented individuals determined to make a difference in the Italian tech ecosystem. Today, from Binario 3, they walked out as cohesive teams already carving their path with new startups. A huge thank-you to them for giving it everything they had. And a call to those out there who can’t wait to be on a stage like this one, meeting top-tier international VCs: applications for Season 5 are open until October 12. If you believe you belong on this stage, join the Current.
