The Stack Exchange Data Explorer uses inconsistent naming for English Language & Usage Stack Exchange. The main site is abbreviated to English, the meta site uses the canonical name, with 'and' instead of an ampersand because of reasons:

SEDE site switcher, filtered on 'english'

Please consider updating the site name to 'English Language and Usage'.

Meta sites for these base sites also need to be checked and updated accordingly (this may not be a full list of problems).

Thanks for the report. As you know, various metadata about the network sites and how that metadata is represented in SEDE are not kept in sync; this is primarily because the systems are independent and change infrequently. We have corrected this inconsistency for the sites (and their metas) mentioned in the question, at least to the best of our ability, as we still avoid & and other punctuation:

Site on SE Former name on SEDE New name on SEDE
English Language & Usage English English Language and Usage
Travel Travel Answers Travel
Music: Practice & Theory Musical Practice and Performance Music Practice and Theory
Code Golf Code Golf and Coding Challenges Code Golf
Bricks LEGO® Answers Bricks

Information Security IT Security Information Security
Matter Modelling Materials Modelling Matter Modeling
Medical Sciences Health Medical Sciences
Community Building Moderators Community Building
Mythology & Folklore Mythology Mythology and Folklore
Veganism & Vegetarianism Vegetarianism Veganism and Vegetarianism

Others not mentioned above have been fixed either to match, for layout reasons, or for a missing Oxford comma:

Site on SE Former name on SEDE New name on SEDE
Photography Photography and Photographic Editing Photography
WordPress Development WordPress WordPress Development
Beer, Wine & Spirits Beer, Wine and Spirits Beer, Wine, and Spirits
Programming Language Design and Implementation Programming Language Design and Implementation Programming Language Design

In addition to the name updates, we fixed many links that either pre-dated a name change (and so went through at least one redirect, like health -> medicalsciences) or were broken entirely (e.g. the meta URLs for sites that have gone through a name change).

We also fixed about a dozen missing icons from the left column on the main page. And over 200 right sidebar images on the main query page that weren't rendering either due to a name change, or for sites without custom themes/logos, or both. The sidebar now shows the icon from the queries page in those cases. This is obviously not perfect-looking; the query box and schema panel get pushed down a bit, since the available images are mostly square, while the custom logos are rectangular:

Before and after image swap in sidebar

Any changes to how this looks across the board will likely have to wait until the rebranding efforts have stabilized.

Adam Lear and balpha were instrumental in implementing these changes, so feel free to give them a high five next time they cross your path.
