Japanese Sci-Fi Film Night Comes to the Brooklyn SciFi Film Festival, Tuesday October 7th

Science fiction fans in Brooklyn will get a special treat this fall when the Brooklyn SciFi Film Festival hosts a one-night-only screening event celebrating the future of Japanese independent cinema. Japanese SciFi Film Night will take place on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Stuart Cinema & Café in Greenpoint. Tickets are available on Eventbrite.

The program will showcase five short films selected by the jury of the Jimbocho Movie Fest in Tokyo, one of Japan’s leading festivals for emerging filmmakers. Organizers say the collection highlights both the imagination and diversity of Japan’s new generation of science fiction storytellers.

Five Short Films, Five Bold Visions

The lineup includes:

• Memories of the Future – A poetic exploration of time and memory.
• Human Farm – A dystopian vision questioning the price of survival.
• Dreaming Waste – A haunting, surreal tale set against environmental collapse.
• Far Away – A meditative story of isolation and longing among the stars.
• Rotting – A dark, atmospheric piece probing themes of decay and rebirth.

Festival organizers note that these films “represent some of the most daring and original sci-fi voices working in Japan today.”

A Growing Brooklyn Tradition

Now in its sixth year, the Brooklyn SciFi Film Festival has earned a reputation for bringing international and independent science fiction cinema to local audiences. Past events have included screenings of genre-bending shorts, panels with filmmakers, and live performances.
