#InternationalWomen’sDay Everyone: 30 years ago, studying engineering in Germany meant being one of very few women in the room… very little has changed since then… I still walk into conferences and client meetings and find myself one of the very few women there.
Fast forward.
#AI is reshaping every industry, every function, every job... The decisions being made right now (about how AI is built, what it prioritizes, what it ignores) will affect everyone. YET those decisions are being made mostly by men...
ONLY #12% of
#AI_Researchers globally are
#women.
Let that sit for a moment!
Here's what's different about this moment though. Every previous
#TechnologyRevolution required a specific technical entry point. Engineering degrees, coding skills... AI doesn’t… The roles that matter most in this wave (ethics, governance, change management, product design, domain expertise, human-AI collaboration, etc.) are human skills. Skills that don't require a computer science degree. Skills many women already have.
The window is open in a way it has never been before!!! But there's also a risk on the other side of that window. AI is also
#eliminating_jobs very fast... According to the
World Economic Forum, 57% of the jobs most at risk from
#automation are currently held by women... The administrative roles, the analytical roles, the knowledge work; the first spaces where women fought hardest to gain ground…
If we're not in the rooms where AI is being designed and deployed, women will disproportionately absorb its consequences. So you need to move, NOW!
I'll leave you with something that struck me, living here in
#Riyadh, watching what's being built. Saudi Arabia's national AI program trained over one million citizens in AI last year. 52% of them were women!
So, don't wait to be invited to the AI table
Pull up a Chair Woman!
PS: still me in there… just a bigger and more confident smile :)
