  • "There is no economy on a dead planet." Our CEO Raymond van Eck and Impact Director Monique Lempers were at the UN last week, sharing how Fairphone is proving that an ethical, circular business model is not just possible but viable. They were invited alongside various heads of state, fellow global CEOs, UN Secretary-General António Guterres, and UN Global Compact Executive Director Sanda Ojiambo, as panelists and speakers at this year's United National Global Compact and UN Private Sector Forum. Here is how they tackled some of the main questions that came up during the discussions Where should we focus investment today? Circularity and longevity. Up to 80% of a smartphone’s carbon footprint is locked into the production phase. By designing modular devices meant to last and actively encouraging repair, we drastically reduce the need for raw material extraction and energy-intensive manufacturing. What policy and market changes are needed? Government mandates for circular design and renewable energy in supply chains. We reduced the product carbon footprint of the Fairphone (Gen. 6) by 30%, largely by ensuring 28% of the electricity used in component manufacturing comes from renewable sources. Clear market signals will force the rest of the industry to step up. How do we make the transition investable in emerging countries? We need to directly fund people on the ground. Whether enabling a living income for informal e-waste pickers in Ghana or purchasing mineral credits for artisanal miners in the DRC, investing directly in local, informal economies yields massive environmental and social dividends. How do we ensure broad-based benefits? A transition is only successful if it is just. We cannot build a clean future on the back of poverty wages. Fairphone pays a living wage bonus to the factory workers assembling our devices. Which costs just over $1 per phone. There is zero financial excuse for the broader tech industry not to do the same. We’ve built the blueprint. Now it’s time for the rest of the consumer electronics industry to follow suit. • Across the tech industry, the response to the ongoing memory chip supercycle was to cut back on specs, remove features, or quietly raise prices to shield their profit margins. We took the opposite route with the new Fairphone (Gen. 6+), packing in more RAM, more processing power, and more features. And it was only possible because we treat everyone fairly across the board, from our suppliers to our customers. Want to dive deeper into how we're tackling RAM shortages and building tech designed to last? Read what our CEO Raymond van Eck has to say here: https://lnkd.in/eCtP-8g8

  • We are incredibly proud and happy to announce that we’ve been shortlisted as a finalist for the Sustainability Initiative of the Year at the UK Mobile Industry Awards! 👏 The MIAs celebrate the very best in our sector. As TechRadar perfectly sums it up: "The MIAs represent the gold standard of excellence in the industry - from the boardroom to the grassroots, the entrants represent the best and brightest the UK mobile industry has to offer." The Fairphone (Gen. 6) has already picked up some amazing awards and to see it continue to be recognized on such a prestigious platform is a massive validation of our core mission. It proves that a fairer, more sustainable electronics industry is possible. Of course, none of this would happen without the passion, dedication, and hard work of the entire Fairphone team. A massive thank you to everyone who worked hard to bring this device to life! 💚 Meet our team Luke James, Amitesh Kamani, Alon Brandt and Paul van den Bogaert at the awards ceremony tomorrow. Together we will celebrate with fellow innovators and represent our product, mission and community.

  • Fairphone is heading to New York this September for both the UN Private Sector Forum and the UN Global Compact Leaders Summit 2026. We aren't going just to join the conversation. We are going to push it further. For decades, living wages and basic human rights have been treated as voluntary ESG milestones, as nice-to-have metrics buried in annual corporate reports. But true systemic change doesn't happen in report footnotes. It happens when these issues are treated as the starting point, the baseline from which the rest of your corporate strategy begins. They should be non-negotiable and fundamental to your operation. Just like it is to Fairphone. Our CEO Raymond van Eck and Chief Impact Officer Monique Lempers (who also currently serves as the UN Global Compact Network Netherlands Board Chair) will be representing Fairphone across three key sessions focused on shifting the status quo, speaking from the wealth of experience that Fairphone has amassed over the last 16 years. ➡️ UN Private Sector Forum When: Sunday, September 20 | UN Headquarters Who's participating: CEO Raymond van Eck together with UN Secretary-General António Guterres Focus: Accelerating a just transition to clean energy, scaling renewable infrastructure, and strengthening supply chain resilience in public-private collaboration. ➡️ Leadership Dialogue on Human Rights When: Tuesday, September 22 | International Labour Organization Headquarters Who's participating: CIO Monique Lempers Focus: Moving human rights from ethical theory to executive accountability and core corporate strategy. ➡️ Collective Action & Systems Change When: Wednesday, September 23 | New York Marriott Marquis Who's participating: CIO Monique Lempers Focus: Operationalizing living wages across complex, multi-tier supply chains to build human-first resilience. Will you or your organization be attending the Private Sector Forum or Leaders Summit in New York this month? Let us know via the comments below or a direct message. We’d love to connect, exchange insights, and build momentum together. See you there!

We were expecting this from the get-go. And now it's official! The teardown experts at iFixit have given the Fairphone (Gen. 6+) a perfect 10/10 repairability score. Just like every single one of its predecessors since the Fairphone 2. Once again, our smartphones prove that sustainable tech doesn't have to compromise on engineering excellence. With zero glue inside, the Fairphone (Gen. 6+) is designed to be taken apart in minutes with just a screwdriver. Replace up to 12 parts yourself, from the battery to the display to the USB-C port. Want to see what a perfect 10/10 repairability score actually looks like under the hood? Watch the full iFixit teardown video here: https://lnkd.in/gYj6idfD

  • We’re honored to share that Fairphone has been recognized at the International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA), taking home Gold honors in 2026. The International Design Excellence Awards is one of the world's oldest and most prestigious design awards, founded in 1980 by the Industrial Designers Society of America. Winning entries are inducted into the permanent collection at The Henry Ford museum in Dearborn, Michigan, which will now also include our very own Fairphone (Gen. 6) Knowing our approach to long-lasting, modular design is being preserved alongside the broader history of innovation means the world to us. It’s proof that tech can be designed responsibly, beautifully, and for the long haul. We're extremely grateful to the judges and to our incredible community for believing that a fairer, longer-lasting future in tech is possible. Here's to many more!

  • It's been a little over two weeks since we launched the Fairphone (Gen. 6+) alongside our expansion into the US market, and the response has been phenomenal. We're really happy with all the positive reviews, especially because we feel this is a device that truly earns its praise. Reviewers aren't just celebrating our mission alone. They’re praising a smartphone that genuinely delivers on daily performance, modular repairability, and longevity without compromise. With more power under the hood, a brand-new colorway, and deeper customization features on the software front, the Fairphone (Gen. 6+) truly lives up to the plus in its name: ➡️ Powered by the Snapdragon® 7s Gen 4 processor matched with 12GB of RAM for seamless multitasking and boosted performance. ➡️ Modular design with 12 self-replaceable spare parts, backed by long-term software support and an industry-leading warranty up to five years. ➡️ Contains 51% fair and recycled materials (by total weight), with a product carbon footprint of just ~30 kg CO₂e. The Fairphone (Gen. 6+). It's everything you love about the Fairphone. Plus more.
