Every day, shoppers around the world browse the Amazon store to look for products just like yours. From Brazil to Germany to Japan, customers are ready to buy.

But you don’t need to travel the world or speak multiple languages to reach these customers. The same products you’re already selling successfully in one country could be in demand across others. And just like you found success in your home market, you can discover and expand into new ones with the right tools. In this guide, you’ll learn:

  • What market demand is
  • Which Amazon tools can help you find market demand for your products
  • How to turn global market research into opportunity
  • How a brand turned market demand into sales success

What is market demand?

Market demand is the total number of people who want and are able to buy a specific product or service in a given place. It combines both desire for the product and the ability to purchase it.

For example, if 5,000 people in a city want to buy reusable water bottles and have the money to do so, that represents the market demand for water bottles in that area. The demand could be driven by environmental awareness, practical needs, or both. But what matters is the number of likely buyers.

Find market demand for your products

Amazon provides global market research tools that can show you where your products could succeed globally, based on real customer behavior and sales patterns. Here’s how:

Start with the Sell Globally dashboard

The Sell Globally dashboard can show you where customers want your products around the world. To get there, go to the main Seller Central menu and select Inventory. Then select Sell Globally. The dashboard has three main areas:

  • New Stores to Launch: See potential sales, incentives, and setup costs for stores you haven’t launched in yet. View this information by region or by country.
  • Global Sales in Active Stores: Track your sales performance in stores where you currently sell. Filter by store and date range to see your progress.
  • Amazon Stores Worldwide: Access all Amazon stores, register new accounts, or link your existing accounts.

In the “New Stores to Launch” section, you can view information in two ways:

Region view lets you compare opportunities across different regions. It shows:

  • Potential sales
  • Incentives to launch
  • Estimated year-one investment for Europe and Asia-Pacific regions

Store view shows a detailed breakdown by country, including:

  • Estimated sales
  • Incentive to launch
  • Approximate year-one costs
  • Recommended ASINs

Get detailed insights with Expansion Research

Expansion Research pages in the Sell Globally dashboard can help you analyze opportunities you’ve found in specific countries. You can see sales trends, customer search patterns, return rates, and more to help you make informed decisions about expansion. Here’s how to use Expansion Research:

  1. From the “New Stores to Launch” section on the Sell Globally page, select View details if you’re in Region view, or select Details in Store view under the “Actions” column.
  2. Then select a Region from the dropdown menu and select a country card to see its data.

Here you’ll find:

  • Estimated first-year sales
  • Estimated first-year costs for your top 10 ASINs
  • An incentive to launch in the country
  • A list of the top ASINs to launch in the country

Two tabs provide additional insights:

  • Sales insights: View sales projections and trends.
  • Cost analysis: Review cost breakdowns and estimates.

ASIN, or Amazon Standard Identification Number, is a unique code that Amazon gives to every product in its store. An ASIN helps Amazon identify and track each product in its stores worldwide.

Find product demand with Marketplace Product Guidance

Amazon’s Marketplace Product Guidance tool analyzes your catalog to show product demand and where your products could succeed in different countries. It’s available in many stores and can provide sales projections and performance data to help you identify your best opportunities. Recommendations are powered by machine learning models analyzing over 600 attributes, with weekly updates based on the latest market data.

To get there, go to the Seller Central main menu and select Growth. Then select Marketplace Product Guidance. You can also get to it through the New Selection Insights card on your Seller Central home page.

In the Global demand for your products tab, you’ll find sales projections for your top products and performance data of top ASINs in your categories. The tool also includes Category Insights, which shows category trends, price ranges, return rates, and advertising metrics.

Turn global market research into opportunities

With Amazon market research tools, you can turn insights into action. Here’s how you could move forward with confidence.

Start with strong opportunities

Look for markets where multiple tools show customer demand for your products. For example, good opportunities might appear when the Sell Globally dashboard shows regional potential, Expansion Research confirms country-level demand, and Marketplace Product Guidance identifies specific products that could succeed.

Evaluate your readiness

Before expanding to a new marketplace, review the complete picture:

  • Use the Cost analysis tab on the Expansion Research page to understand your investment needs.
  • Check if your products meet local requirements.
  • Consider whether you have the inventory and operations in place to serve new customers well.

Take the next step

When you’re ready to expand, use the “Amazon Stores Worldwide” section of the Sell Globally dashboard to register to sell in new countries with Amazon. You can then use Build International Listings from the top menu to create and translate listings across stores and choose fulfillment options like Pan-European FBA to reach customers efficiently.

How Blink turned global product demand into sales success

Social media conversations about the availability of Blink’s home security cameras abroad caught the company’s attention. Instead of guessing about European demand, they turned to Amazon for strategic expansion. Their approach:

  • Used Amazon data and tools to understand local customers
  • Started with the UK market to test and learn
  • Expanded to four more European stores in six months
  • Used Pan-European FBA to reach Prime customers efficiently

The result? Blink doubled their European sales in one year.
