Keith Urban may score a multi-million payday following his split from Nicole Kidman.
According to Radar Online and news.com.au, the country music star and the Oscar-winning actress had a prenup that contains a rumoured “cocaine clause” that awards Urban nearly US$600,000 for every year he remained sober during their marriage.
Kidman, 58, filed for divorce this week in a Nashville court citing “marital difficulties and irreconcilable differences.”
According to Forbes, Kidman was ranked the highest-paid actress in 2024.
The outlet reported that she was paid more than $1 million per episode in three TV shows: The Perfect Couple, Lioness and Expats.
Urban, 57, became clean and sober shortly after marrying the Babygirl star in 2006 and credited her for helping him turn his life around.
“Meeting her and getting married wasn’t life-changing, it was life-beginning,” Urban told CBS News in 2016. “It was literally like, ‘OK, now life starts.”
When he helped honour her at the AFI Life Achievement Award ceremony in 2024, Urban thanked Kidman for standing by his side when his struggle with addictions nearly “blew our marriage to smithereens” early on in their marriage.
“Four months into a marriage, I’m into rehab for three months, with no idea what was going to happen to us,” Urban said. “Nic pushed through every negative voice, I’m sure even some of her own, and she chose love. And here we are 18 years later.”

During an appearance on The Zane Lowe Show this year, Urban reflected on his years-long battle with drug addiction and alcoholism.
“All through the years of drinking and doing drugs and all the rest of it, I always had this very specific voice inside of me that goes, ‘One day, you’re gonna come to a crossroads or a fork in the road, and it’ll be the final one,'” Urban said, according to Fox News.
“‘You’re either gonna choose to get out of this s*** or you’re never gonna get out of it. That day is gonna come and it won’t be like well, if you mess it up this time, maybe next time. There won’t be a next time. And you’ll know when it comes.'”
Urban said he knew he had come to the point in his life when Kidman called an intervention in 2006.
“I knew that was it,” the New Zealand native said. “I’m like, ‘Oh, this is that fork in the road.'”
The four-time Grammy winner told Rolling Stone in 2021 that an ex who called him “a novelty” on the Nashville music scene led to his substance abuse.
“You might say, ‘Big deal.’ But I was feeling insecure, and the fact that me and my accent would be a novelty to somebody cut me to the core,” he said. “Oh, my God. Really bad. It devastated me. It was a turning point. After that, s*** started to really go awry.”
In 2010, Urban told Oprah Winfrey that Kidman “really should’ve just walked.”
“I’m just so glad she didn’t, and she made a decision to turn around and initiate ultimately this intervention, and it was done in such a way that the love in that room at that moment was just right. I was like, ‘Put the cuffs on, let’s go,'” he recalled.
In 2020, he said that he knew he would lose the most important thing in his life if he didn’t clean up his act.
“She’s just the one, that was it,” Urban said during an appearance on Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard. “She’s the one that I was searching for my whole life, and everything not only changed, but had to change in me if I was going to go that road. It was literally like, ‘You either get this right now, or you are never, ever going to get it right. This is your one shot.'”

Following the news of their breakup, insiders told TMZ, that Urban initiated the split and that “Nicole did not want the separation and (was) trying to save the marriage.”
Friends in their inner circle added to TMZ that they believe Urban has moved on with someone new.
“All the signs point to the fact that Keith is with another woman,” insiders close to the Big Little Lies actress told TMZ. “Let’s just say, Nicole doesn’t dispute that, but she’s still shocked over it.”
One leaker close to Kidman adds, “It’s all over Nashville.”
“Nicole’s hurt and feels betrayed,” an insider close to the former couple told PEOPLE. “It’s devastating to her. She’s shocked.”
