The Future of Work in the Art World Last week, Toby Monk, our Director of Recruitment and Engagement, joined an esteemed panel at The Art Business Conference to explore how the art world is evolving, and what that means for its future workforce. The session: “The Future of Work: Apprenticeships, Diversity and a Stronger Workforce for the Art World”, brought together voices from across the sector to discuss accessibility, freelancing, leadership, and training. Since launching in 2017, our award-winning UK Apprenticeship Programme has welcomed over 160 apprentices, 82% from state schools and a wide mix of ethnicities, reflecting our commitment to opening doors in the art world. Christie’s was proud to sponsor and participate in the 2nd Annual Ball for Art Tournament, a series of 3-on-3 Artists Basketball games and fundraiser supporting arts nonprofits across New York City, including ARTNOIR, ArtsConnection, New York Culture Club, Silver Art and Artolution. Sixteen teams of artists and art-world players competed in a knockout tournament at the Grand Street Basketball Courts in Sara D. Roosevelt Park, cheered on by more than 600 spectators. Players wore limited-edition Golden Goose t-shirts featuring illustrated designs by renowned artist Nate Lewis, adding a creative flair to the competition. The celebration continued at an after-party at Ray’s Bar on Chrystie Street, bringing together colleagues and friends in support of a meaningful cause. A heartfelt thank-you to everyone who participated and contributed—we’re grateful for your enthusiasm in strengthening the vital role of the arts in New York City.

Showcasing paintings, works on paper and editions from 1953 to 2014, this retrospective offers a rare opportunity to engage with MARWAN’s unique and inspiring oeuvre, from his artistic beginnings in Damascus, Syria, to his early figurations, iconic Facial Landscapes and haunting Marionette series made in Berlin, Germany, his adopted homeland.
