Janos Feher shared thisThe beauty of free software is that you have the right to scratch your itch. Here is a tiny contribution of a contribution :) to a OpenCode v2 plugin: https://lnkd.in/e9-UQbSE . My PR adds: - Opencode V2 support on the new TUI plugin API - an Opencode Go/Plus provider. Usage pulled from the Opencode Console endpoint - a more native feel: the gauge now lives in the prompt footer, next to the context and cost readouts, compact by default and expanding only when there's room, instead of floating on its own row at the bottom. Thanks Ata Ayyıldız for the original plugin.feat: OpenCode 2 support (V2 TUI plugin API) by aries1980 · Pull Request #1 · satas20/opencode-usage-barfeat: OpenCode 2 support (V2 TUI plugin API) by aries1980 · Pull Request #1 · satas20/opencode-usage-bar

Janos Feher shared thisI strongly disagree. Having one Terraform assumes that every environment has the same resources with the same structure. Also having only the tfvars just makes it not possible to experiment when you introduce a new infrastructure element as it also appears in production. For some elements you can use 'count', but it makes referring to the resources inconsistent. IaC is full of singletons, hacks to overcome the limitations of the cloud provider. The best way to my experience is to introduce minimal repetition and Terraform modules for the common parts.Janos Feher shared this⚠️ ⚠️⚠️ I feel like I have to set the record straight here now as I see this far too often and can no longer let it slide! THIS IS NOT GOOD PRACTICE WHEN STRUCTURING YOUR TERRAFORM ACCROSS MULTIPLE ENVIRONMENTS! You need just one terraform folder with the right logic to apply the appropriate configurations across the different environments. The below pattern creates more margin for error across your deployments! Comments welcomed below 🙃

Janos Feher posted thisOne of the well-known, mass-produced "ethical" chocolate brand pays $3.5 per kg for the dry, fermented cocoa. Let's do some math: - You need around 1.3kg of unshelled cocoa beans to get 1kg cocoa liquor. For the sake of easier calculation, I don't fiddle with the butter content, because the excess butter can be used in white chocolate and other products and because the legal definition of "cocoa solid" include all cocoa ingredients - The 180g bar that costs £3.50 at the retailer. - The chocolate has 32% cocoa solid content. Only 77% of that comes from Fairtrade registered source. But let's assume they always pay $3.5/kg regardless the certificate. - So the $0.35 per kg of cocoa can be watered down to about $0.12 per 100g with a 32% cocoa solids content. - That's £0.17 for a 180g bar. - This leaves us with paying 4.8% - 6% of the product price for the farmers depending on the cocoa solids content. So next time when they try to induce guilt in you or your children, remind yourself: 1) cocoa is a lesser component of their product, yet it is emphasized the most 2) 95.2% of the chocolate cost goes for something else: dividends, marketing, taxes and bs 3) yet they are the champion of paying the farmers what they worth If you really want to be sure you support farmers, buy single-estate chocolate from small batch chocolatiers.

Janos Feher posted thisHello Hindi-speaking friends, I find a lot of content on Youtube which is in half Hindi (just a guess) - half English. I find it funny to hear a "Hello friends, blablabla blabla comparison blabla bla fact check blabla hundredandtwentygigabytes blabla", it feels like I'm having a stroke. :) The videos would be very useful, but I can't understand them as the auto-subtitle with auto-translation fails because of the mix of the two languages. Because the title and description of such videos are in English, but the content is not, I'm wondering if there is a way to filter these in my search or get it auto-translated somehow? Thansk for your help. :)

Janos Feher shared thisFriends don't let friends to build an application inside a container build context (aka `docker|podman build -f ./Dockerfile .`) . Why? Because the `container build context` - runs with privileges, it takes all the cpu and memory it can grab. - efficient build caching is problematic, volume mounting let's say it is impossible when your CI is not in cowboy mode, The build context is designed to assemble the image, not to create the artefacts. What to do instead? Run the build and copy the final artefacts into your image: `podman run --mount ... && podman build ...` . (Yes, there are more sofisticated ways, but this is better by a long mile than doing multi-staged builds and crank everything into a Dockerfile.) Thoughts?Janos Feher shared thisWhich base image do you use for creating your application images❓ Red Hat UBI (Universal Base Image) might be your go-to preference. The best part is that it keeps your container images small and helps improving performance. Attached below is a simple Dockerfile using Red Hat Universal Base Image (UBI) to create a custom React.js image. Pros: 🎯Security: Includes top-notch security features to protect your applications. 🎯Certification: UBI images are certified, ensuring they meet compliance standards. 🎯Compatibility: Works smoothly with Red Hat tools, Kubernetes, and more. 🎯Application Support: Access to a wide range of certified applications for your projects. 🎯Simplified Development: Reduces complexity so you can focus on what matters most.

Janos Feher shared thisThank you for all the marketeer creeps who contribute to this mess. It is one thing to observe your users on your own digital estate and an other one to use 3rd parties because of lazyness and putting the interest of the clients to the bottom of the list. This practice is inevitably going to be illegal, sooner rather than later. https://lnkd.in/dR69JXaQ #privacy #meta #privacyrightsEach Facebook User Is Monitored by Thousands of Companies - Consumer ReportsEach Facebook User Is Monitored by Thousands of Companies - Consumer Reports

Tomorrow, 30th September 12.30pm Learn how the changes to the IR35 / off-payroll rules back in April 2024 dramatically reduced the tax risk for firms, and how this has directly improved the landscape for hiring contractors. In this practical session, Dave Chaplin explains why 2026 is shaping up to be a genuine contracting revival, and why the excessive risk that drove blanket bans is no longer what it was. We’ll cover: 1. The April 2024 offsets fix and how it significantly reduced historic IR35 tax exposure 2. Where the case law now stands following key court decisions 3. What HMRC compliance checks are showing in practice 4. How umbrella and employment rights reforms are reshaping hiring again You’ll leave with a clearer view of where risk now sits, and what you need in place to hire contractors with confidence. If you are reviewing your contractor strategy, today's session will help you sense-check your position and move forward with clarity. Janos Feher liked thisJanos Feher liked thisSuper Intelligence…the technology formally knows as Artificial Intelligence became subject to the “White House Accord” today. After months of concern the good news is that the US has not regulated AI, restricted Innovation or banned open models. It hasn’t even imposed guardrails. There has been real fear of a ban which led to a July open letter signed by a raft of major tech companies including Nvidia, Microsoft and even OpenAI, praising the benefits of open weight models. Instead Trump’s accord is -as he describes it- "morally binding" with a "tremendous self‑policing aspect". This involves internal risk review, external auditors, and independent board review of audit findings. So for anyone in the US, today’s “Super Intelligence” announcement is one they must get used to as it’s going to apply to all new government documents thanks to this Executive Order. As Mark Zuckerberg described it “set of principles and commitments around building robust internal controls and detecting if there are any issues with the technology coupled with multiple layers of auditing and controls, starting with internal risk review, external auditors and evaluators, and agreeing that we're going to have all of our boards of directors independently review the reports that come from the auditors”. As for openness in the form of open weight models…it lives to fight another day and to continue to build its adoption with a market share of over 50% and growing.

Janos Feher reacted on thisJanos Feher reacted on thisSo I just turned 35 and while thinking about how incredibly old I feel I thought I’d look back at the last year as it’s been especially mad. One year ago: I worked at A11, jumping back and forth to Germany, and lived with my wife in a rented apartment barely in Lisbon. Now I’ve already worked for DOJO AI for a year?! And I live in the apartment we bought with my wife and our six month old daughter that we drive around in our car and I’ve secretly launched our side project Discoffery. Work wise I cannot compare the two roles they are just so different but I got asked at a garden party how they compare and I said the main difference is flexibility, of everything. I’m working on so many things: podcast, blog, customer trainings, case studies and most unusual product feature development?!? Not to mention my main job of dad!

Janos Feher reacted on thisJanos Feher reacted on thisMy side venture Anansi News still categorises every article with gpt-4o-mini. It was fast, cheap and good enough. Then I put it up against Jev on 540 real articles. It wasn't close. Anansi News is an AI-powered news organisation for Ghana, and a Kiseki Labs venture. It files every story into one of nine sections: news, politics, business, Africa, sports, entertainment, technology, health and education. Jev is TypeSafe's first System One model, a decision model that doesn't write anything. You hand it the article and the list of sections, and it returns its pick with a probability for each one. I scored both models against reference answers from Claude Opus 5. Roughly one in five of gpt-4o-mini's picks landed in a different section. Even counting every section Opus judged defensible, it plainly misfiled 36. Jev misfiled 3. Overall, Jev got 92.6% right against 79.8%, answers in about a quarter of a second, and costs under $0.05 per thousand articles. What surprised me most is that the confidence scores mean something. When Jev is at least 90% sure, it's right 99.7% of the time, and that covers just over two thirds of the test set. The obvious move was to send the unsure ones back to gpt-4o-mini. That would have made things worse. On the 22 articles where Jev was least sure, gpt-4o-mini got 18% right. Jev got 64%. A fine-tuned BERT-style classifier could have done this years ago. Realistically, most teams never had the time for that, or the skills. So we asked an LLM and hoped its free-text answer matched a real section. When it didn't, Anansi dropped the article. Jev's answer is always one of the sections, and adding a section is a new row in a database. These numbers are provisional. The change is still in review, and the reference answers came from a model rather than our editors. I expect them to improve as I tune the instructions and section descriptions, and possibly add subcategories where news blurs into politics. I reckon decision models like Jev will replace a lot of LLM calls. I'll keep pushing Jev further on Anansi News, and I'll be looking for the same pattern in client work. If an LLM in your stack picks from a fixed list, you should measure it before you call it good enough. Be honest. How many of your LLM calls are really a multiple-choice question, or a true-or-false decision in disguise?

Janos Feher liked thisJanos Feher liked thisIR35 / off-payroll isn't going anywhere - ignore the click bait Folks, I'm seeing a few click bait posts by people pretending that Labour policy makers might be considering binning IR35 and/or off-payroll. It's not true. I'll tell you why. (1) If they were, I'd know about it - because I advise the policy makers. (2) Large scale structural tax law changes don't happen overnight on the whim of a new Chancellor. (3) Policy making happens in distinct phases. You can read about how it's done if you wish: https://lnkd.in/eW-Zr3Dc (4) Labour cannot afford to drop off-payroll. See the 10 year gilt rates. (5) Treasury resistance would be huge. The reality on the timeline re IR35 is that nothing has actually changed for quite some time. April 2022: Case law, Atholl House. Sep 2024: Case law, PGMOL April 2024: Offsets legislation in PAYE Regs (fixing double taxation flaw) April 2025: Company size threshold legislation (won't take effect until 2027). That's is above. We are in tumbleweeds zone. Case law settled. Tax flaws fixed. Don't let the latest batch of pop-up IR35 experts tell you otherwise. They are just chasing revenue and clicks. #ir35 #offpayroll
