Dr. Andreas Koeberl reacted on thisDr. Andreas Koeberl reacted on thisMy seven-year-old niece asked what I'd been doing the previous day. So I tried to explain it her way. Me: “Imagine you sell two sweets. One leaves you with more money every time you sell it. The other leaves you with less. An advert comes on YouTube before Nick DiGiovanni. Which sweet do you pay to put in it?” Grace: “The one that makes me money.” Exactly. One brand spent £180,000 in 30 days to sell more of 17 products that were losing the business money. I spent the morning leading a workshop with TikTok Shop and a group of brand leaders. Nobody was selling sweets. They were managing real products with real advertising budgets, facing exactly the same question. There's sometimes a perfectly good reason to lose money on the first sale. But you should know exactly how, and when, you'll earn it back. The dangerous part is how easy it is not to know. Sales are growing. The adverts look like they're working. Everyone's hitting their targets. And the business can still be paying, every day, to lose money faster. I’m opening three places this August. The brands selected will become Founding Partners as we build the monitoring technology behind The Read. It is for consumer brands already doing meaningful volume through TikTok Shop, but not yet certain which products are genuinely creating value and which are being scaled at a loss. We use the brand’s recent commercial data to produce a clear Shop Profitability Breakdown, the three decisions leadership should make next, and a 30-day test plan. Among knitting machines, cones of yarn and half-finished garments, we spoke about creating fabric from scratch, resisting the pressure of overexposure and what it really means to build a fashion house on your own terms. His vision is not built overnight - it is patiently woven, one stitch, one garment and one collection at a time.
