WolfStack is my life.— Discord user
Simple, Honest Pricing
WolfStack is free and open-source for personal use — the binary is MIT-licensed, every core feature is in there, and you can run it on three hosts without ever paying us a penny.
The paid tiers unlock the things real businesses need: clustering, scheduled backups, SSO, white-label branding, multi-tenant client portals, and direct support. Each tier adds a coherent feature bundle — no per-host counting once you’re past Homelab, no penalty for growing your fleet.

Homelab and Team are self-serve software licences — you run the binary on your own infrastructure, billed monthly via Stripe (+ VAT), cancel any time. Enterprise is sales-led; we’ll scope a quote against your estate, fleet size, compliance posture, and timeline.
A host = one WolfStack installation (one machine running the binary, regardless of how many VMs or containers it manages). Sponsoring on
GitHub Sponsors
from £3/mo also gets you the private sponsors-only Discord (any tier).
How WolfStack Compares
WolfStack’s big idea: Docker, LXC, VMs, VPN, monitoring, backups, and an app store in one binary, with one UI — instead of stitching together five products. Community is free; paid tiers add SSO, API keys, plugins, white-label, and support.
| Stack | Pricing | What’s in the box |
|---|---|---|
| WolfStack Community | Free — unlimited hosts | Docker, LXC, VMs, mesh VPN, 530+ apps, backups, status pages, alerting, workflows, clustering. Single binary, MIT-licensed. |
| Proxmox VE + subscription | €110–1020/yr/socket | VM & LXC management. Mature, but no Docker UI, no overlay VPN, no app store, no monitoring product, dated UI, CLI-only networking, no built-in DR. |
| Portainer Business | $180/yr per node | Docker / Kubernetes UI only. No VMs, no VPN, no clustering of bare-metal hosts. |
| Coolify (managed) | $5/server/mo | App PaaS. No bare-metal VMs/LXC, no VPN, no clustering, no monitoring suite. |
| Tailscale Business | $18/user/mo | VPN only. Excellent at it — but you still need a separate platform to manage anything. |
| WolfStack paid tiers (commercial use requires one of these) | ||
| WolfStack Homelab | £12/mo (10 hosts) | Adds clustering, WireGuard bridge, branded status pages, scheduled backups, AI agent, and Predictive Inbox to the free platform. The cheapest legitimate way to run WolfStack as a small business. |
| WolfStack Team | £149/mo (50 hosts) | Adds OIDC/SSO, unlimited public status pages, and 24h email support. For SMB IT teams who need accountability and a real auth story. |
| WolfStack Enterprise | Talk to us | Unlimited hosts. Adds WolfCustom white-label, multi-tenant client portals, the plugin SDK, and WolfHost (for MSPs / hosting providers), plus custom SLA, dedicated CSM, SOC2/ISO collateral, on-prem & air-gap install, and bespoke development. Annual or multi-year contracts, NDAs, POs, custom invoicing. |

Frequently Asked Questions
Is WolfStack really free?
Yes — for personal and non-commercial use. The Community edition is source-available under the PolyForm Noncommercial licence, runs on up to 3 hosts, and lets you try the platform end-to-end. Commercial use of any kind — running WolfStack at a company, in a managed-service offering, or as part of a paid product — requires one of the paid tiers. The paid licence overrides the noncommercial restriction.
I’m a homelabber — do I need to pay?
No. Personal homelab use is the canonical “non-commercial use” case and stays free under Community. If you outgrow 3 hosts or want clustering, WireGuard bridge, scheduled backups, branded status pages, or AI agent unlocked, Homelab is £12/mo — less than a streaming subscription.
Why flat pricing instead of per-host?
Per-host pricing punishes you for growing. WolfStack should make it easier to add a host, not more expensive. Homelab caps at 10 hosts and Team at 50 — flat-rate per cluster, no per-host fees as you grow within your tier. Unlimited hosts (and white-label / multi-tenant for MSPs and hosting providers) is Enterprise, scoped and priced per estate. A “host” or “node” is one WolfStack installation: one server running the binary, regardless of how many VMs or containers it manages.
What counts as one cluster?
Any group of WolfStack nodes that share a cluster secret — i.e. one dashboard view. The licence file is propagated to every node automatically within ten seconds of being placed on any one of them.
What happens if I exceed my host cap?
WolfStack never blocks you from operating. You can still add hosts past your tier’s limit — the dashboard shows an amber “over cap” badge and we’ll be in touch about upgrading or invoicing for the overage. We’d rather have a sales conversation than break your infrastructure.
Can I change tier later?
Yes — visit Manage Subscription any time. Stripe handles the proration; we re-issue the licence key and email it to you automatically.
What about GitHub Sponsors?
GitHub Sponsors from £3/month gets you the private sponsors-only Discord channel and a vote on the roadmap, regardless of which tier you’re on. It’s the best way to support open-source development if you’re happy on Community.
Do I need to install the licence on every node?
No. Drop it on any single node in the cluster — it propagates to every other node automatically within ten seconds. Standalone hosts that aren’t in the same cluster each need their own.
What data does the licence report?
A lightweight daily heartbeat reports your signed licence key (so we can verify subscription status against Stripe), node hostnames, cluster name, WolfStack version, and OS. No container names, workload configuration, file contents, or end-user data is ever transmitted. The heartbeat is non-blocking — WolfStack continues to function normally regardless of connectivity to our licensing server.
