Asics is embracing fall with the global launch of its new Gel-Transcend FJ model, a trail-informed lifestyle sneaker that the brand said is made for “everyday exploration.”
Available now in Black Coffee/Graphite Gray and Ash Green/Graphite Gray looks in men’s and women’s sizing, the Gel-Transcend FJ is a new model which borrows influences from archival Asics footwear.

Most notably, the Gel-Transcend FJ gets inspiration from the Japanese sportswear company’s 1990s hiking and walking shoes such as the Gel-Odyssey, Gel-Radius and the original Gel-Transcend series. This is seen through perforated rugged leather paneling atop a breathable mesh base, while the brand’s Asics Stripes logo is molded into the lateral and medial sides.
While the Gel-Transcend FJ is intended primarily as an everyday lifestyle shoe, Asics didn’t skimp on the sneaker’s tooling, which borrows from 2019’s rugged Gel-FujiTrabuco trail shoe. The jagged, boot-like AsicsGrip rubber sole adds both durability and traction to the model while also bringing an aggressive aesthetic to the otherwise toned-down design. Cushioning was also considered, with the Gel-Transcend FJ using the brand’s proprietary FlyteFoam technology for lightweight comfort.
Asics lifestyle category, which the company calls Sportstyle, has also been in the news with the recent remastered reissue of Ronnie Fieg’s Gel-Lyte 3 Salmon Toe sneaker. First released in 2011 to commemorate Kith’s first store, the style was revisited in 2016 for the retailer’s fifth anniversary with the Salmon Toe 2.0. This year, for Kith’s 15th anniversary, it reissued the original Salmon Toe style, this time with genuine pigskin nubuck instead of the synthetics seen on the original 2011 release.
After its official release on Friday, the Asics Gel-Transcend FJ is available now from asics.com and select global retailers for $150.
