Letter from Pari: Hardware's AI Moment Has Arrived

MemoPari Singh

Today we're announcing that Flow has raised a $50M Series B at a $750M valuation, co-led by Antonio Gracias (Valor Equity Partners) and Gavin Baker (Atreides Management).

Sequoia Capital, who led our Series A, is doubling down in this round, along with Roelof Botha personally. We're also excited to welcome Thomas Wolf (Hugging Face), Nico Rosberg (Formula 1 World Champion), Jonas von Malottki (CIO, Mercedes-Benz), Human Capital, and Evantic as investors.

AI has transformed software development. Hardware engineering is next.

We are living in a new golden age of hardware. Rockets that land, cars that drive themselves, robots that run factories. The products we create have gotten massively more complex, but the way we develop these products has not kept up.

Flow is accelerating hardware development cycles from months to days with AI V&V (validation & verification). Flow’s Systems Engineering agents listen to changes in CAD, Git, Simulations, Docs and immediately run impact analysis, flag conflicts and detect requirement failures. Hardware development cycles are starting to collapse, from years for major revisions, to minor changes being integrated and verified daily.

Anduril, Joby, Stoke Space, Rivian & many more - Flow is now the default platform for requirements and verification for frontier hardware teams. But it’s not just next-gen anymore.

Industry giants including General Motors PPU and Volkswagen & Rivian’s new joint venture (RV Tech) are reshaping their core development practices with Flow’s AI.

In 12 months Flow has built and scaled our San Francisco HQ, launched Flow v3, deployed Systems Engineering agents in real hardware programs, and won the industry leaders in space, aero, autonomy, defense and energy.

Our secret weapon is our culture. We have modeled it on the Skunkworks philosophy. Teams are (insanely) tight and elite, ownership lies with the engineers closest to the work, and we iterate directly with our users. We’re deeply grateful that we get to work directly on the most important programs today, and accelerate the invention of reusable rockets, surgical robots, nuclear reactors, and autonomous vehicles.

The revolution is just starting. Models are getting better quickly, at CAD, analysis, simulation, and tool use. In the next year, AI will move from integrating the work, to doing the work.

When I became an engineer, I wanted to invent. In reality, 90% of the day to day execution work (CAD, excel, sim) was digital manual labour. That’s about to flip. The engineer’s role will change more profoundly than at any point since the invention of CAD, with humans focusing on invention, architecture, tradeoffs and judgement calls, and agents taking the grunt work.

One day, this shift won't just enable us to iterate faster, it will enable us to design a class of products that we could not have dreamt of before.
