Xenomorphs are making a comeback with Alien Isolation 2, and now we finally have some more details about the upcoming horror game.

After seeing a brief teaser for the highly anticipated sequel featuring Amanda Ripley's showdown with the perfect predator shown during Alien Day, the Summer Game Fest 2026 schedule just gave us a new trailer and a bunch of small details. And, like any fan of the best horror games, I'm ready to untangle all of the extraterrestrial webs.

Below I've gathered all the latest information and insights about Alien Isolation 2, looking at the new trailers, and story clues from a comic series that may shock you. I've also looked at the Alien movies in order to find easter eggs and clues. So scroll on for a complete overview of one of the most exciting new games on the horizon! Here's everything you need to know about Alien Isolation 2.

Alien Isolation 2 release date speculation

Currently there's no release date for Alien Isolation 2. However, I'm guessing a 2028 release, considering how little we've seen so far.

Considering that the game is still in early development, we'll be in for quite a wait. So, buckle-in folks. We will keep you posted as more news heads our way and if any delays happen. But, while we wait for more news you can read our Alien Isolation review if you want a refresher on the sci-fi horror story.

Alien Isolation 2 will be heading to PC, PS5, Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S once it releases. This news came our way during the Summer Game Fest schedule.

This does mean that only the latest-gen consoles will be getting the spooky outing, so sorry, PS4 and Xbox One owners. Considering how the new Switch console can handle big titles, it's also great to see it coming to that console.

Alien Isolation 2 trailer

We got our first teaser for Alien Isolation 2 during Alien Day (aka April 26, 2026). In the clip, we see a shot of a ruined world as a spaceship door opens, as well as a shot of an emergency telephone booth. Intriguing.

During Summer Game Fest, we also finally got our first trailer, and it's a bit more beefy than the first teaser, thankfully. In that one, we see that we are on a colony and are being hunted out in the open...spooky.

Alien Isolation 2 story and setting

A shot of a ruined colony at night in the rain during the teaser for the game Alien: Isolation 2

Currently, we don't know the full story of Alien Isolation 2. However, thanks to the brief teaser we got back in April 2026, there are some clues that we can start unpacking already. In the clip, we see what looks to be a crashed spaceship open its doors to reveal an Earth colony in ruins during a dark and rainy night.

Now this has been confirmed to be a Weyland-Yutani-style outpost called the Kurasaki Station, instead of Earth (as confirmed by the most recent teaser in Summer Game Fest Live), similar to Hadley's Hope (which was a human terraforming, research, and mining colony before a Xenomorph infestation caused havoc). And while Amanda Ripley wasn't shown in this teaser, I'm also fairly confident that she will be back, given how she was still technically alive at the end of Alien Isolation.

For more clues in terms of the potential story of the game and what we can likely expect from Amanda if she does return, we can look at the comic series Aliens: Resistance and Alien: Rescue, which consider the Alien Isolation timeline as canon to its story. The comic follows on from the events of Isolation, starting with Amanda being picked up safely and having to deal with some more Xenomorph-related nonsense.

The comic then goes into a story of Amanda and her comrade Zula setting out on a new planet in order to investigate a testing facility for the Weyland-Yutani bio-weapons program. Now, there is no confirmation if Alien Isolation 2 will draw on the comic for its story, but it does seem like there is at least some kind of connection, as the teaser states we won't be stuck in a space station this time around, but we will be exploring (and likely being hunted) out in the open. This is similar to at least a part of the comic's storyline.

Stay tuned for updates!

Alien Isolation 2 gameplay

A close-up of blue eyes

Just like the previous game, Alien Isolation 2 is a survival horror game that incorporates stealth mechanics as you try to avoid becoming Xenomorph food.

However, unlike having to navigate a contained small space like we were in the first game, we'll be out in the open, navigating a planet's surface. Even with this new open setting, you'll need to sneak around and use the environment as cover to avoid being killed. In order to progress the story you'll also need to complete mission objectives. These will likely vary, but we are waiting to learn more about the details in general.

I'm also wondering if the gameplay for Alien Isolation 2 will be more action focused like James Cameron's movie Aliens. It will be interesting to see if we have more opportunities to actually fight Xenomorphs, as opposed to trying to outsmart and avoid them this time round. It's all very exciting and I'm keen to discover which direction the franchise will be going down, especially if the story does take some queues from Aliens which also has some Xenomorph infestations mentioned too.

Alien Isolation 2 development

Alien: Isolation

Alien Isolation 2 is being developed by Creative Assembly. Now, considering how Creative Assembly developed the first game as well, I'd say we are in pretty good hands here, folks.

What we do know is that while Alien: Isolation used the Cathode Engine, there has been a sneaky confirmation that the sequel is an Unreal Engine affair. This news came our way thanks to spotting a past job listing on Creative Assembly's website.

"This is an excellent opportunity for a talented senior development manager to join the sequel to Alien: Isolation being built in Unreal Engine 5 (UE5)," read the post on the company's site.

This post is no longer available on the company's site. So we are still waiting for more details from the studio. Fans are concerned that shifting engines will result in a different feel and texture from the masterpiece that was Isolation. There have also been concerns about how the shift to UE5 will result in performance issues, but we'll just have to wait and see for ourselves. We'll keep you posted as soon as we receive comments and more information around the matter.
