Whistleblower Awards Pilot Program
The Department of Justice’s Criminal Division administers a whistleblower program designed to identify and root out corporate crime. Under the Corporate Whistleblower Awards Pilot Program (or CWA), a whistleblower who provides the Criminal Division with original and truthful information about corporate misconduct that results in a successful forfeiture may be eligible for a monetary award.
You can report information about corporate crime using the new online intake portal found here.
Program Coverage and Awards
As described in more detail in the program guidance and Criminal Division guidance, the information must relate to one of the following areas:
- Certain crimes involving financial institutions;
- Foreign corruption involving misconduct by companies;
- Domestic corruption involving misconduct by companies;
- Federal health care offenses;
- Fraud against the United States;
- Trade, tariff, and customs fraud;
- Federal immigration offenses by companies; and
- Corporate violations related to sanctions offenses, material support of terrorism, or cartels and transnational criminal organizations.
If the information a whistleblower submits results in a successful prosecution that includes criminal or civil forfeiture, the whistleblower may be eligible to receive an award of a percentage of the forfeited assets, depending on considerations set out in the program guidance. A whistleblower award is made in the Department’s sole discretion. Submissions are kept confidential to the fullest extent of the law.
Companies
Companies that voluntarily self-report within 120 days of receiving an internal whistleblower report may be eligible for a declination under the Department of Justice’s Corporate Enforcement and Voluntary Self-Disclosure Policy if the company reports to the Department before the Department contacts the company.
