What makes a shop feel impossible to leave? We set out to answer that with Faire's Perfect Shop Formula, a research-backed framework exploring how independent retailers can create more memorable in-store experiences by combining sensory cues like scent, sound, light, touch and taste with human cues like story, service and community. Built from a survey of more than 6,000 shoppers across the UK, France and Germany, insights from experts in consumer psychology, retail design and sensory marketing, and conversations with Faire retailers, the research uncovered some powerful lessons for independent shops everywhere. A few things stood out: 🛍️ 80% of shoppers surveyed believe independent shops beat big chains when it comes to ambience ✨ 81% can immediately tell when a shopkeeper has invested in the store's atmosphere 🏆 Get the ambience right, and shoppers say they'll stay longer, spend more and be more likely to come back The takeaway? There’s no single formula for creating a memorable shop. It’s how you bring together atmosphere, experience and human connection in a way that feels uniquely yours. Last week Faire celebrated our first “Summer Give Back.” Across our North American offices, Faire employees volunteered with local organizations, from food kitchens to animal shelters to beach and park clean ups. Our mission is to empower independent retailers and brands to strengthen the unique character of local communities. Faire Summer Give Back was an opportunity to go into some of these communities and bring our mission to life in a new way. And to have fun! Throughout the day, Faire employees got the chance to work alongside coworkers from different teams, maybe someone whose name they'd only known from Slack. Doing this kind of work together builds a connection no meeting can, and we carried the spirit right into our office celebrations at the end of the day. We can’t wait to make this an annual tradition, and we’d love for you to join us: https://lnkd.in/gta6FmX

Recently, Faire co-founder and CEO Max Rhodes sat down with Jason Del Rey to share more about how we’re using AI to make wholesale smarter and easier for independent retailers and brands. From making discovery more personalized so retailers find the best products for their taste to reducing toilsome work for brands, we’re already seeing our customers benefit, and as Max shared, we’re excited for what the future holds. Faire is a nine-year-old online wholesale marketplace, valued most recently at $5 billion, whose customers are independent retailers and brick-and-mortar shops. But I admit that I have not previously covered it closely, which says more about me than the company. Basically, I’ve had a bit of an aversion to covering B-to-B e-commerce other than stories about brands’ relationships with major retailers like Amazon and Walmart. I have often just found storylines in B-to-C commerce more compelling. I’ve recently decided that’s ridiculous. After all, it’s a monstrous space. Amazon Business, for example, announced recently that it was on track for more than $60 billion in annual revenue. More importantly, I’ve come across more and more industry leaders in the past year who are incredibly excited about the role AI technologies can play in modernizing how businesses buy and sell from each other. Not in the future. But right now. And Faire is one of the more innovative companies in the space. So I recently interviewed Max Rhodes, the company’s co-founder and CEO, in what I found to be a candid and compelling conversation. Rhodes explained in detail why the biggest driver of his company's nearly 40% revenue growth actually has a lot to do with “old-school AI,” not Large Language Models. But he also reveals where LLMs are actually pulling their weight, where they still fall short, and what has to change before he trusts one to power the “holy grail” tool he really wants to launch for his retailer customers. Plus, some insights on both the pros and shortcomings of the AI coding boom. I’ve edited the conversation for both clarity and length. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did. BREAKING: The cutthroat world of... internal pop-up shops? The Q3 Corner Store Competition at Faire is officially entering the home stretch, and Faire Action News is on the ground to report the cold, hard facts. For those out of the loop, our execs were tasked with running their own internal pop-up stores, using the Faire platform as retailers to develop more customer empathy. The competition started out friendly. It is no longer friendly. Here is what our investigative team has uncovered: - Max’s Corner is throwing around allegations of "sabotage" regarding their online store, while investing heavily in event marketing. - The Fine Print just launched a controversial pre-order site with zero shipping fees. Their legal team calls it an "opportunity." Everyone else calls it a loophole. - JMart claims to be completely unbothered by the competition, yet leaked, low-res paparazzi photos of an emergency team huddle tell a different story. We build great things at Faire, but we take our internal pop-up rivalries to a level that clearly requires a dedicated news desk and investigative journalism. Want to see the full investigative report? Join our team: https://lnkd.in/gta6FmX To the store owners... care to comment on these allegations? Max Rhodes Rebekah Punak Jason Lee

In Q2, Stuffed and Plush toys surged +628% on Faire, with most of the growth dominated by the squishy phenomenon. With our most recent data report, we looked closer at the larger Kids & Baby category and found that the trends driving growth—from squishies and beyond—reflect the evolution of modern parenting philosophies away from the high-tech world of screens toward more analog, nostalgic play. Check out the report here and stay tuned for more insights from Faire’s proprietary data: https://lnkd.in/gA4kqkRE

“Bottom line: The indie retail renaissance has legs, and the industry should pay attention.” Thank you Catie Pusateri and Fashionista for covering Faire’s independent retail quarterly report, including chatting with Jennifer Burke about how the market has grown and adapted: https://lnkd.in/eqxXqiSt This quarter, some of the biggest trends we identified included the viral squishy phenomenon—which hit independent retail faster than mainstream outlets—and growth outside major metro areas, especially in vacation towns and smaller Sun Belt cities. It can be hard to find data on independent retail, so we’re excited to fill the gap and continue championing the creativity and resilience of our retailers and brands.    You can find the full report here, and stay tuned for more data insights from Faire coming up (hint: we might be going deeper on squishies soon): https://lnkd.in/gKxY9Tbx

We are thrilled to announce that we have expanded Promoted Listings to brands in Europe, alongside key product updates to make wholesale advertising even more effective, flexible, and transparent. Sanjay Raman, Faire’s Chief Product Officer, reflected, “Every great wholesale relationship starts with discovery: a retailer finding a product they believe in, and a brand finding a partner who can bring that product to new customers. With Promoted Listings, we’re using the unique data across Faire’s marketplace to make that discovery more relevant. It’s an important step toward building a more intelligent and connected wholesale platform, where great products can find their way into more stores and communities around the world.” First launched in the U.S. in 2024 and Canada in 2025, Promoted Listings has seen fast adoption, with over 14,000 brands using the tool to increase their visibility, acquire new customers, and grow sales on Faire. As we launch the tool in Europe, we’ve also introduced new features like “Growth Mode,” giving brands more control over how they advertise on Faire, and new sophisticated analytics to track ad performance. This past weekend, Faire showed up at TrendSet GmbH in a way we never have before! TrendSet is one of Europe's leading trade shows for home and lifestyle, bringing together thousands of brands and retail buyers under one roof in Munich. In our fourth year of partnership, we wanted to reimagine what a trade show partnership could look like. The result was Faire Straße: a 300m² shoppable street inside the show and Faire’s largest trade show activation to date, bringing together ten curated Faire brands in one destination space where retailers could discover, connect, and buy on the spot. Faire Straße highlights: - 10 brands hand-selected by both Faire and TrendSet across lifestyle categories - Emerging and established brands, all brand new to the TrendSet show - A central meeting place and community hub with a coffee bar, food, and drinks - A Faire “genius bar” with expert tips for brands and retailers alike - A live session with German retail expert Johannes Albert, founder of ‘Entfalte deinen Laden’ Thank you to TrendSet, our Faire team, and every participating brand who helped turn Faire Straße into a true community space for independent retail. Featuring: HELIO FERRETTI (FEBACSA 88 SL), yiayia and friends, gestalten, Zeller Present Handels GmbH, COUDRE BERLIN, Magazin Minori, WERNS GmbH, HERR&FRAUHEMPEL, sasstie, and BEARFOOT

There’s so much happening in tech now that feels straight out of science fiction: AI, of course, but also brain chips, self-driving cars, colonizing space, and more. I applaud all of it. But despite all that futuristic innovation, small business owners are shockingly underserved by the technology industry. That’s why I want to build for Suzi. There are millions of people like Suzi, dreaming of opening their own stores: Bookshops, gift stores, florists, fine grocers, and more. Faire’s job is to use technology to help them take the leap, take it with confidence, and in doing so, make our communities more human and vibrant. Independent retailers like Suzi shouldn’t be an afterthought in how we think about our economy: In the US alone, they account for nearly $4 trillion in consumer spending–more than half of the retail industry. They’ve persevered through pandemics, supply chain snarls, and macro volatility. They win real customers every day with thoughtful assortments and human touches. I shared Suzi’s story at our recent All Hands because I want to make it even easier for people like her to get their stores off the ground, so every aspiring retailer someday tells us, “When people ask me why I’m so successful, I say because of Faire.” If you’re excited to help people like Suzi, we’re hiring: https://lnkd.in/gwc8_pC3 And I’d love to hear: What’s a store in your neighborhood that makes your community more interesting and vibrant? Or, if you’re opening one of your own, what are you building?
