Meet Zohra Yaqhubi ‘22, Golub Capital Board Fellows alum and former Student Leadership Team president. Zohra gained social sector experience at a young age and has continued to serve and make an impact ever since. Reflecting on her experience in the program, she said: “I can’t stress enough how special the program is. Many people (my younger self, included) assume that board membership is reserved for people later in their careers. The Board Fellows program shows that does not have to be the case. It is empowering for students to see that somebody early in their career can be an asset and bring value to the board, and the program not only shows us that, but lets us experience it.” Today, Zohra is an attorney at Kirkland & Ellis in Boston and serves on the advisory council of Communities United, Inc., helping expand access to high-quality early education and family services. 🌟 Yale School of Management & Central Connecticut Coast YMCA: A Partnership with Purpose 🌟 Since 2017, the Central Connecticut Coast YMCA has partnered with the Golub Capital Nonprofit Board Fellows Program at Yale SOM, welcoming Yale MBA students onto its board—and uniquely granting them full voting rights. The CCC YMCA serves 75,000 individuals annually across 25 towns, offering programs from swimming lessons and youth sports to childcare and supportive housing. But its impact goes beyond programs—it’s about strengthening communities, from pandemic food pantries to mental health support. Through this fellowship, Yale SOM students gain hands-on board experience, participating in strategic discussions, volunteering in programs, and bringing fresh perspectives to nonprofit governance. Fellows like Margaret Kuo ’25 and Rachel Warne ’23 have applied classroom insights—from change management to technology strategy—directly to the Y’s operations, all while deepening their connection to New Haven. As CCC YMCA CEO Timothy Bartlett notes, “They’re there in mind, in soul, and in spirit.” And as our fellows graduate and move on to careers across sectors, the hope is that this experience sparks a lifelong commitment to community engagement and impact. A huge thank you to the CCC YMCA for demonstrating the power of partnership and for showing Yale SOM students what it means to lead with purpose. Link to full article: https://lnkd.in/ec85HMcU
