With the passing of Dr. Jane Goodall, the world has lost not only a pioneering scientist but also one of the most influential change agents and environmental ambassadors in the history of conservation. Leading always with heart, she redefined what it means to understand and protect species and ecosystems, bridging science, advocacy and community empowerment to transform the global conservation movement. Her courage and vision opened doors for generations of young women in science and beyond, while her voice reminded us that the fate of people, animals and the planet are inseparably linked. Few individuals have left a mark as profound, enduring, and unifying as hers. We are honored to work with the The Jane Goodall Institute (JGI) to restore a critical habitat corridor between the Budongo and Bugoma forests of the Ugandan Albertine Rift. With a population of over 1,000 chimpanzees, the forests are a stronghold for the endangered species. The corridor is being restored by planting a diverse mix of local, native trees to create conservation forests outside of protected areas. They provide surrounding communities with livelihoods, cultural benefits, and new opportunities, which strengthens local support and contributes to long-term sustainability. By balancing conservation objectives with socio-economic needs, this project fosters greater coexistence between humans and wildlife, securing critical habitat for the endangered chimpanzee, among other species and vital resources for the local communities. Its comprehensive approach is just one example of how Dr. Jane Goodall redefined species conservation to include the needs of local people and the environment. We are committed to working with the Jane Goodall Institute into the future to support her vision of restoration and conservation. May her life and work continue to be an inspiration to all of us as we work to restore forests and landscapes around the world. In her own words: “You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.” Rest in peace Dr. Jane Goodall 💚

My favorite part of the week at One Tree Planted is hearing field updates from our amazing Project Managers and learning about the incredible work that is being done on the ground. It's one thing to read a short project description online, but to hear a firsthand account with photos, makes the project feel so much more real. Thought I'd offer a glimpse into the kinds of updates we hear every week: Samadrita Roy recently visited our women-led mangrove restoration project in the Indian Sundarbans. She said she was inspired by the women leading this project, admiring their energy and dedication to protecting their environment. Our on the ground partner in India is currently preparing the site by digging canals to improve the hydrology of the site, removing invasive species and creating nurseries to grow the seedlings. The nurseries have replaced 20% of the plastic bags they use to plant the propagules with jute, which is more environmentally friendly and helps generate additional income for the women. How cool is that!? This project combines mangrove restoration with women empowerment to restore biodiversity, improve water quality and strengthen coastal resilience against climate change, while providing training and jobs for women in the community. Grateful to be a small part of this amazing work being done everyday!

Every tree starts with a seed. Every movement starts with one person. 🌱 This Plant a Tree Day, your small action can spark big change. Whether it's planting a tree, making a donation, sharing a message, or inspiring someone else to act, every step adds up. Together, our individual actions become a collective force that transforms communities, forests, and the planet. Let's plant it forward with us September 28th—because change grows when we all take part. https://shorturl.at/HNtEl

By planting trees and native plants around Markham’s public library, residents are building healthier, greener spaces where families can gather, children can learn, and biodiversity can thrive. This project shows how trees address real inequities: improving air quality, reducing flooding, restoring soil, and creating safe outdoor spaces. From combating respiratory problems to supporting wildlife and mental health, every tree planted makes a lasting difference. Together with Origins and the Markham community, One Tree Planted is proving that tree equity is more than an idea. It is a movement rooted in resilience, health, and hope. 🌳 Our roots run deeper than we realize. Trees anchor our ecosystems, our history, and our future. Without them, we lose more than forests. We lose the very foundation that sustains us. That's why every tree planted and every forest restored is an act of protecting who we are and where we come from. 💚 Help us keep our roots strong.

It's all worth protecting. 🌎 Take a moment to look around. The forests that breathe life into our air. The wetlands that cradle our coasts. The mountains and rivers that sustain communities and wildlife alike. These landscapes work tirelessly, quietly, giving us so much. And for that, we are grateful. Every effort to restore, protect, and care for nature is a way of giving back and a way of saying thank you to the planet that gives us everything. Together, let's protect it. Nurture it. Cherish it. 💚
