Costume Character Cookie Monster paid a surprise visit to kids at The Children's Storefront, an early childhood education center in Harlem, as they were learning to make nutritious and delicious snacks in a day hosted by #NYP’s CHALK program (Choosing Healthy and Active Lifestyles for Kids). Registered dietitian Robyn Turetsky, of #NYP’s division of Community and Population Health, led children and caregivers through a hands-on, cookie-making demonstration that incorporated healthy ingredients, like Greek yogurt and fresh berries.     Along with Sesame Street and local community organizations, NewYork-Presbyterian is expanding access to health education, providing families with the tools to build healthier lifestyles. Click here to learn how we’re working to bring health education to youth in the communities we serve: https://nyphosp.co/3KM55fg.    Columbia University Irving Medical Center, Weill Cornell Medicine

Digital technology is a growing part of family life, but while devices can be tools for learning and connection, they can also present challenges for parents. With the support of Google.org, we're helping families build healthy digital habits with new resources that prepare children to grow up in a digital world. Leaders convening for #UNGA High-Level Week are faced with a rapidly changing world: swiftly evolving technology, more frequent extreme weather events, and increasing unrest, shifting how we think about the future. Yet one thing remains the same: the future we are striving for is only possible by investing in our youngest children.  Research has shown us time and again that quality early childhood development programming has both immediate and long-term benefits for children and their communities,  improving education, health, social, and economic outcomes. It lays the foundation for lifelong learning, health, and productivity. Yet, only 2% of humanitarian assistance globally is dedicated to ECD. Our youngest children have the most to gain, yet receive the least. We need to equip them with the tools they need today to face the complex challenges of tomorrow.  This week, let’s all remember that an investment in ECD is an investment in our collective future: one that is more peaceful, healthy, and prosperous for all.

  • With 1 in 6 children growing up in conflict zones, the need to support young families has never been greater. That’s why we partnered with the The LEGO Foundation to launch Play to Learn, which pairs research-backed educational content with direct services to deepen learning, strengthen bonds with caregivers, and build foundational emotional skills that can last a lifetime. With over 33 million children reached across 32 countries, the program has played a critical role in helping children continue to learn when traditional services are disrupted.
