Amit Jain reposted thisAmit Jain reposted thisAn Open Letter to the Citizens of India: Dear Proud Indian, There is a man sitting at Jantar Mantar, in the heart of our capital, who has not eaten in over two weeks. His name is Sonam Wangchuk. You know his face. You cheered for him in a theatre once, when a character inspired by his life taught a fictional college that learning matters more than rote memorization, that curiosity matters more than fear. We hero-worshipped that story and made Aamir Khan a hero. And the real hero is in his brink, fasting, dying. He is not fasting for himself. He sat down in solidarity with young people demanding accountability after this year’s exam paper leaks harmed futures of millions of students. Millions. Think of that number not as a statistic but as millions of individual mornings: a student waking up early, preparing for months, walking into an exam hall trusting that the system in front of them was fair. That trust was broken. Wangchuk is asking, with his own body, that someone be held responsible for breaking it. Eighteen days without food is not normal. It is a body slowly consuming itself. It is a heart working harder with less to work with. Reports already describe his health failing, his weight dropping sharply, other young protesters at his side collapsing and being carried to hospitals. The government’s silence continues, as if a man’s life were a negotiating tactic rather than a life. We cannot afford that silence. Education is not a side issue in this country. It is the only bet we are making on our future. India’s demographic dividend is at risk. A leaked exam paper is not a clerical failure but a crack in the foundation of that dividend. Wangchuk understood this decades before most of us did, and he is paying for that understanding with his body right now. So this is not a call to take a side in a political fight. It is a call to remember that a citizen’s conscience does not require permission from a party symbol. Ask about him. Say his name. Ask your representatives, your neighbours, your own families, why a man who has given his life to Indian education is entering his eighteenth day of hunger in the shadow of our Parliament while the country changes the channel. A nation does not need to agree on every demand to agree that a human life should not be the price of being ignored. We owe him that much attention. We owe ourselves that much spine. With hope that we are not too late. A fellow citizen

Amit Jain liked thisAmit Jain liked thisIn the heat of battle, when victory finally arrives after a grueling 2-1 thriller, the true champions don’t just raise their arms, they open them wide. Neymar and Matheus Cunha chose to embrace the heartbroken Japanese players first, offering respect before reveling in glory. That single gesture reminds us: greatness isn’t measured only by the scoreboard, but by how we treat those we’ve overcome. In a world quick to celebrate at others’ expense, true strength lies in humility, empathy, and recognizing the shared effort behind every contest. Let this moment inspire us all, on the field, in the office, and in life, to win with grace, lift others even in defeat, and build bridges where rivalry could divide. Respect is the ultimate trophy.

Amit Jain reacted on thisAmit Jain reacted on thisMumbai's monsoon arrived on Wednesday, 13 days late. Within hours, 208mm had fallen on the western suburbs, Andheri was waterlogged, subways flooded, and Central Railway services were disrupted. Hindmata, the same junction that makes the news every year, was underwater by morning. Every monsoon, the same cities flood. The same headlines. This isn't a failure of engineering or political will. It's a system working exactly as designed, just for different objectives than the ones written in the plan. Indian cities flood annually because the fiscal architecture rewards post-disaster relief spending and makes prevention investment structurally inaccessible. Because no single agency controls the full causal chain from rainfall to flood damage, so no single agency bears the accountability cost. Because the measurement system tracks drain length constructed, not drain capacity functional, which makes the maintenance deficit invisible until it kills someone. Three cities broke out of this. Surat built a standing coordination protocol between the municipal corporation and upstream dam operators, institutionalized it in a trust structure that survived political cycles, and hasn't had a catastrophic flood in 18 years despite comparable rainfall. Copenhagen chose surface retention over underground sewers, came in 30% cheaper, and measured outcomes at the catchment level rather than counting projects. Philadelphia charges a stormwater fee based on impervious surface area per parcel, raises $100 million a year in ring-fenced maintenance revenue, and prices the drainage externality onto the land uses that generate it. China's Sponge City programme shows what happens when you get this wrong at scale. Thirty pilot cities, billions invested, targets set in project counts rather than hydrological outcomes. Zhengzhou was a Sponge City pilot. In 2021, 380 people died in its floods. The minimum reform package for any Indian city is three things: a parcel-based stormwater fee, a Surat-style coordination trust, and an annual CAG audit of functional drain capacity published before monsoon. None requires constitutional change. All require political will to impose costs on actors who currently pay nothing for the runoff they generate. The full analysis is in the link below. Thoughts welcome, especially from anyone who has tried to move this in practice. Why Indian Cities Keep Flooding, and What Would Actually Fix ItWhy Indian Cities Keep Flooding, and What Would Actually Fix ItAbhas Jha

The Rajasthan government will develop a 500 MW / 2,000 MWh standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) with a four-hour single-cycle design and extended operational life, following India’s updated VGF guidelines. Ajitabh Sharma, IAS, Principal Secretary for Energy, said: “This tender marks the final phase of Rajasthan’s current 6,000 MWh BESS development plan, enabling projects that better align with local grid and peak demand.” The state previously faced challenges with two-hour cycles. The NIT for bidder selection is now open, advancing Rajasthan’s energy storage roadmap and grid reliability.

🔋 Why “Ahead-of-Meter” BESS Policy is Key for C&I Growth in Places like Maharashtra Commercial & Industrial customers are increasingly looking to battery energy storage systems (BESS) to manage demand charges, time-of-use volatility, and reliability. But without supportive policy mechanisms — especially for “ahead-of-meter” (AOM) storage — many of these business cases don’t stack up. 📍 Current Maharashtra Landscape • Maharashtra recently raised the net-metering cap for rooftop solar to 5 MW (or the consumer’s contract demand, whichever is lower), and introduced net/gross metering + behind-the‐meter options. However, benefits like banking & flexible use remain constrained until rooftop capacity crosses certain thresholds. • The MERC’s new MYT order has made changes: banking of solar energy is restricted by time slots (generation must be “used in daylight hours”), grid support charges kick in after certain rooftop capacities, and ToD tariffs / rebates are being redesigned. All of which reduce the economics for C&I customers. ⚠ Challenges for AOM BESS Adoption by C&I Users 1. Tariff & Regulatory Uncertainty: Restrictions like limited banking (daylight only), grid support charges, and time-based constraints erode the return on investment. 2. High CapEx & Financing Costs: BESS remains expensive; without clear revenue streams (via shifting energy, peak shaving, demand charge reduction, etc.), payback periods stay long. 3. Lack of Clear Policy for Ahead-of-Meter Storage: Many regulations are designed around behind-the-meter / rooftop solar. AOM storage, which could discharge directly to grid or provide services, needs separate, supportive rules. 4. Grid Integration / Interconnection Barriers: Permitting, grid capacity, and connection charges need to be streamlined. 5. Revenue Streams Not Fully Defined: Value from ancillary services, demand response, peak load management, frequency regulation are not always monetized or accessible to C&I + BESS operators. ✅ What Needs to Change • Introduce clear definitions & regulatory treatment for ahead-of-meter BESS in state regulations (MERC & others). • Allow flexible banking & Time-of-Day tariffs that reward shifting load, not just restricting usage. • Enable multiple revenue streams: energy arbitrage, demand charge savings, ancillary services, grid support. • Simplify interconnection, permitting, and transparent cost components. • Provide incentives (tax breaks, subsidies or viability gap funding) to de-risk AOM BESS for C&I applications. 📣 Bottom Line: If Maharashtra (and other states) wants C&I customers to scale up storage adoption, enabling “ahead-of-meter” BESS via good policy is no longer optional — it’s essential. What do you think — are we close to policies catching up, or is more urgent regulatory action needed? #EnergyStorage #BESS #C&I #Policy #Maharashtra #GridFlexibility #Renewables #CleanEnergyr

⚡ U.S. Slaps 125.9% Subsidy Duty on Indian Solar Exports — A Shock for Indian Solar Industry The U.S. Commerce Department has imposed a preliminary countervailing duty (CVD) of 125.9% on Indian solar cells and modules, effective Feb. 24, 2026. Importers must now post cash deposits until final rates are confirmed by July 6, 2026. At this level, a $100 solar panel could land in the U.S. at about $226 — instantly rendering many supply contracts unviable. 🔎 What Happened • The investigation began with a petition on July 17, 2025 • The U.S. ITC found injury to domestic producers, enabling the probe • US Department of Commerce launched the investigation on Aug. 6, 2025 • Preliminary ruling issued Feb. 20, 2026 India exported $1.2 billion in solar panels to the U.S. in 2025 — already down 18% from 2024. ⚠️ Why the Duty Is So High 1️⃣ Adverse Facts Available (AFA) penalty Adani’s Mundra Solar units — selected as mandatory respondents — withdrew from the probe, prompting the harshest methodology. Non-cooperation typically results in the highest possible subsidy rates. 2️⃣ Export-linked schemes under scrutiny Programs such as Advance Authorization, Duty Draw¬back, RoDTEP and EPCG are being examined as actionable subsidies because benefits are tied to exports. 3️⃣ Transnational subsidy theory Investigators examined whether inputs like polysilicon, wafers and solar glass sourced from China were supplied below market prices — expanding the subsidy net beyond India. 4️⃣ “All-others” rate applies widely Firms not individually investigated — including major exporters — face the same 125.9% provisional duty until company-specific rates are issued. 🌍 India Is Not Alone This action follows U.S. penalties on Southeast Asian exporters last year: • Vietnam: ~124% (higher for non-cooperation) • Thailand: ~23% to ~800% • Malaysia: ~17% to ~169% • Cambodia: ~534% “all others”; extreme cases exceed 3,400% The pattern reflects Washington’s effort to curb China-linked supply chains and rebuild domestic solar manufacturing. 🇮🇳 What This Means for India ✔ Loss of price competitiveness in the U.S. market ✔ Increased scrutiny of export-linked incentive schemes for more products ✔ Supply-chain dependence on Chinese inputs is now a trade risk ✔ Need for deeper domestic value addition and traceable sourcing ✔ Greater urgency to diversify export markets ⚡ Strategic Signal This case is not just about subsidies. It signals a structural shift in global clean-energy trade — where industrial policy, supply chain geopolitics, and trade enforcement are converging. India’s solar sector grew rapidly on global demand. Its next phase will depend on resilient supply chains, compliant incentives, and strategic market diversification. #TradePolicy #SolarEnergy #IndiaUS #CleanEnergy #SupplyChains #Manufacturing #EnergyTransition

India has been striving to find it’s footing in the solar sector over a decade now . Having seen the domestic industry unite against dumping from China in 2016- ‘18 to India being slapped CVD investigation by USA today ! The plight remains for all stake holders at different intermediate stages - from imports to value addition (through manufacturing/ assembling etc ) to exports . This sector requires coordinated effort by stakeholder line ministries !

Noida-based battery startup Offgrid Energy Labs raised $15 million in funding. The funding round was led by Archean Chemical Industries, with participation from Ankur Capital. Founded in 2018 by Tejas Kusurkar, Rishi Srivastava, Ankur Agarwal, and Brindan Tulachan, Offgrid Energy Labs is developing zinc-bromine gel batteries as a safer, greener alternative to lithium-ion for stationary energy storage. The technology is designed for 6–12-hour long-duration storage, an area where lithium and other chemistries struggle to compete. #funding #offgrid

While watching video from Markets by Zerodha, I realized something important about how we talk about India’s solar targets. The CEA roadmap says India needs ~280 GW of solar by 2030. But that number is quoted in AC terms — the power that can actually be delivered to the grid. In reality, solar farms are built in DC, and we oversize the DC side by ~1.3–1.4× so inverters run closer to their peak output during the few strong sunlight hours. Add CUF losses, maintenance, ramp-up, and factory uptime: to add ~35–40 GW (AC) per year, we actually need ~60–75 GW (DC) of panels/year. Utility-scale solar needs ~4–5 acres per MW. 60–75 GW/yr = ~240,000 to 375,000 acres every year. Goa = ~915,000 acres. So each year, we need to build solar equivalent to ~25–40% of Goa’s area. And this is before data centres, AI compute, green hydrogen, and EV demand ramps up. The next investment wave must target storage, transmission, grid intelligence, curtailment reduction, and tech that increases usable output. We don’t just need more megawatts. We need more usable megawatt-hours. Solar growth is now a throughput problem, not just a capacity problem. https://lnkd.in/gPBSM4V8

Solar + EV + Battery is not just a sustainability play — it’s a quantified financial advantage. Here’s why the board should care: 📉 Cheaper 24/7 Power: Modern solar-plus-storage systems in India can deliver round-the-clock clean energy for under ₹6/kWh — competitive with or better than grid and fossil sources. 💰 Diesel Replacement Savings: Diesel generator power costs can exceed ₹30–₹36 per unit (based on typical genset fuel use at ₹90/litre), while solar + storage delivers power at a fraction of that cost (₹3–₹6/kWh). 📊 Payback & ROI: Commercial solar investments in India often show 3–6+ year payback periods and 30–50%+ ROI depending on tariffs and usage patterns — even before accounting for EV charging benefits. ⚡ EV Operating Costs: Electric vehicles cost around ₹0.25–₹0.50/km to run vs ₹8–₹12/km for diesel ICE vehicles — a 6–40× reduction in fuel cost that compounds when charged on low-cost solar power. 📈 Battery Cost Downtrend: EV and stationary battery prices are falling rapidly — forecasts suggest li-ion battery pack costs could drop up to ~50% in the next few years, accelerating ROI for integrated systems. The Financial Narrative for the C-Suite: ✔️ Lower long-term energy cost ✔️ Reduced operational risk from fuel price volatility ✔️ Enhanced asset value with predictable energy pricing ✔️ Strong alignment with regulatory and ESG targets ✔️ Multiple revenue/credit streams (net-metering, carbon credits) Solar generates energy cheaply. Batteries store it cost-effectively. EVs consume at ultra-low operating cost. Together, they convert energy from a cost center to a strategic advantage. This is not theory — the numbers already support it. #EnergyStrategy #Solar #EV #BatteryStorage #ROI #CleanTech #India
